Last summer before the estrangement I found a lovely, formal dress that I found at a wonderful sale. We don't have a lot of money but we were going to make sure we did our part for the wedding, even if we had to borrow the money from the bank (but if we are not invited, we are not putting out any more funds). My son and his gf agreed that the dress would be beautiful for the wedding although there was an odd look on their faces when I asked them. I think they were planning this punishment in their minds even then. Now I see that dress hanging in my closet and it hurts me to look at it. Too much time has passed to take it back and somehow I can't bring myself to give it away because I guess in the back of my mind I'm thinking there might be a miracle and we'll get to go. But realization is setting in now as he still doesn't want us there. My husband recently bought me a lovely necklace and earring set to match the dress. I said "why, you know we're not invited to the wedding." He said that's ok, if we don't get to go, we are going to the fanciest restaurant in town so you can wear it. I know my es won't care but I'm wearing the dress anyway!
