CHRISTIAN PARENTS of ESTRANGED ADULT CHILDREN Community Group
Estrangement makes it difficult to talk about with family, friends, neighbors and church members. Christians are NOT immune to broken families. Talk about your experiences with those who know how you feel and get positive support through your Christian faith...."In these last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self...disobedient to parents,...
I have been on DS, unfortunately, for many years and I never really read Dr. Coleman's books or heard any of his webinars until recently. And, like you, I was a little uncertain about his style of counseling. My opinion has changed since I listened to several of his free Q&A's and read several of his articles. I submitted 2 questions concerning my es and his replies were right on. In fact, I discovered that his counseling is quite diverse, depending on the circumstances.
When he answered my question, during one of his webinars, it was not what I wanted to hear but it was what I needed to hear. He said my es's reactions to gifts I tried to send grands, his responses to my texts, etc. indicated that my es some serious mental issues and he took pleasure and found control in his hurtful and cruel messages to me. Dr. Coleman recommended I keep a distance from him and his family for my own safety. My dh and some friends had said almost the same thing as Dr. Coleman over the years but listening to an unbiased person say these things was exactly what I needed and has given me the strength to just move forward and truly place my es in God's hands. Never giving up hope but cannot continue to allow estrangement to consume me and hinder me from doing what God has called me to do.
