CHRISTIAN PARENTS of ESTRANGED ADULT CHILDREN Community Group
Estrangement makes it difficult to talk about with family, friends, neighbors and church members. Christians are NOT immune to broken families. Talk about your experiences with those who know how you feel and get positive support through your Christian faith...."In these last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self...disobedient to parents,...
It's just the only way I personally know how to get through the hard days and hurtful words and offenses ..... Let go and let God.... Personally, I don't know what else works!
This verse and this little commentary really helped me focus when it comes to handling those offenses our EC's like to hurl our way....
Proverbs 19:11
11 Good sense makes a man restrain his anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression or an offense.
Proverbs 19:11
The discretion of a man deferreth his anger
That he does not show it immediately; but takes time to consider of the offence given him, and makes use of a proper time to resent what is fit should be resented; he is a wise and discreet man that is slow to anger, ( Proverbs 14:29 ) ( 16:32 ) . He is most like to God, who is "longsuffering, abundant in goodness and truth", ( Exodus 34:6 ) ; and it is to the honour of his "name" that he "defers [his] anger", and "refrains from" cutting off those that offend him, ( Isaiah 48:9 ) ; and [it is] his glory to pass over a transgression;
to forgive an offence committed; it is the duty and interest of a man to do so, and it is to his honour; as the contrary greatly reflects dishonour on him, and tends to his disgrace and reproach, if not to his ruin; see ( Matthew 18:32-35 ) from bible studytools.com website under commentary
God bless ... and remember God's ways are not our ways ... We just need to keep giving it to Him....
We can not change our EC but we can pray that God will change them. Is your ED married?
Jesus says it best of course......
Matthew 10:14 .... And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
(by the way if your husband was sitting there ...I hope he said something back to her.)
Sorry for what you are going through, carolynf1. Why do people think it is ok to put others down? I'll never understand what it is they gain from doing this. As someone else commented, I hope your husband stood up for you.
