I need Christian wisdom. Our ED left us (and all relatives) 18 months ago. She will be 22 on Sunday. In the past 18 months she has been with many different enablers after originally leaving to be with a former bf. Right now she is with a bf (and his mother) who live not far from us, although not a good situation. We have seen her only 3 times last January when she contacted us for a car and money which we did not feel led to do. She continues her lies and slander about us till this day.

I do know her phone # and that she texts. Should I text her a Happy Birthday? I have been working on detaching with prayer. Thoughts please?

This is the second birthday our ED is having since leaving home. I am praying towards detaching with prayer so this will be the last birthday or special occasion that I acknowledge. I am not expecting a response but felt led to do it this year.

I appreciate your Godly wisdom and am blessed to have this place to be a part of with you.

My ED will be 45 yrs old on July 4th. For the first time in her life she will receive NOTHING from me. She chose to completely ignore my birthday and Mother's Day for the past 2 years. I did send her a nice gift last year but never again. I am through with her.

It is past time to stop sending gifts that aren't appreciated. Ever since my DIL regifted the spa gift card I sent her for her birthday (she regifted it to her step mom) I learned my lesson. If my ES and DIL do not recognize my birthday or Mother's Day, and never thank for gift, I am the fool to keep sending, aren't I???

This is the year to stop. Let's see how long it takes our EC to figure it out - what goes around comes around.

All my ES and DIL are getting from me are prayers.

I agree. This is the last occasion. It especially hurts me that our ED ignores my 92 year old sick Mother (her grandmother) who she always said she loves. How can a normal thinking person do such a dreadful thing? I will send prayer up for our ED but no more acknowledgement on her special days when she ignores everyone from the eldest to the youngest. Jesus shook the dust off of his sandals, too.

I pray for my ED every morning and night. My prayer is that she will find Christ. Neither she nor her husband are Christians and that bothers me much more than whether or not she likes/loves me. I worry about her salvation.

My ES is a Christian and accepted Christ a long time ago; his wife is not a Christian but he told me he thought he could bring her to Christ. Maybe if that happens, she will allow him to have his family back in his life.

Even though my ES is a Christian, I am sure God is not pleased with his actions the last 6 years. He has forgotten the "Honor your father and mother" commandment. There will be a price to be paid by him.

So I continue to pray, like I think all of us on this site do for our EC on a daily basis.

Prayer is the most we can do for our EC or anyone for that matter. I pray one day our ED will return to Christ as she has turned her back on God and His ways. I think she will need to reach some kind of bottom as the prodigal had to do so she can really return to the Father. She needs help with her mental issues and I pray one day she would come to us for guidance, again, and we could direct her to the right help.

I agree. Our EC have neglected to follow the commandment "to honor their parents." The enemy has blinded them to God's ways. Estrangement is not of God it is of the enemy.

I send my D a card for her B and MD. She does not do the same for me. But I made a promise to myself that I will always try at least for those occasions. She might have shunned me but I will not shun her no matter what she has done and no matter the unconscionable pain she has caused me and her father.
