When Darkness Falls
Devotional
Life has a way of surprising us with seasons we never saw coming. One moment we're walking in sunshine, and the next we find ourselves in what feels like an endless night. Maybe you're there right now - wrestling with doubt, grieving a loss, or feeling completely alone during what should be a season of joy. These dark nights are real, and they're part of the human experience. You're not weak for struggling, and you're not forgotten by God. Even the strongest people in Scripture faced seasons where hope seemed distant and God felt silent. But here's what I want you to know: dark nights don't last forever. They're not your final destination - they're a passage. And sometimes, in the middle of our darkest moments, God is preparing something beautiful that we can't yet see. The story of Jonathan and David reminds us that even in our lowest valleys, love has the power to change everything. Today, if you're walking through darkness, know that you're not alone. God sees you, He knows your pain, and He's working even when you can't feel it. Your dark night is not the end of your story - it's the setup for something greater.
Bible Verse
'As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.' - 1 Samuel 18:1
Reflection Question
What dark season are you currently walking through, and how might God be preparing you for something you can't yet see?
Quote A dark night is when you're going through a dark season in your life, whether you're struggling with your faith, lost a loved one, going through family issues, if you feel alone at Christmas time, it's a time of darkness, little to no light, and without a sense of love.
Prayer
Lord, when darkness surrounds me and I can't see the way forward, help me trust that You are still working. Give me hope to believe that this season is not my final destination. Amen.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ
