My daughter and I took one of the adult cats to the vet today, and it turned out the reason why all the five adult cats became ill was because of the fleas. The vet gave the liquid flea medication to all the cats and kittens and said to give the medication two more times once a month. I didn't know fleas can cause cats to be sick. The vet told us this coming Saturday we can take our three kittens that are sitting in a cage on the porch to get free shots that are provide by a pet shop and are given at this clinic. So the conclusion is we took one of our cats in to be treated by the vet and got flea medication for the rest of them. I thought these poor cats (the five adult ones) would drop dead one by one since we couldn't afford the vet cost. The fact that the vet was able to tell from examing only one cat what the problem was (that they were eating alive by the fleas) cut the cost of the exams. The prescribed flea medication costs $15 each. The exam for the one cat was $50. The total cost which included eight pieces of the flea medication is $170. I thank God for anwering prayers and providing the money through Care Credit to help these cats. Three of them were born inside our house. I am still confused about how fleas can cause cats to be unable to eat and poop. I guess if they don't eat, there is nothing to pooop out, so having a lot of fleas on the bodies can cause cats to lose appetite and strength. This happened because I brought in the kittens that were abandoned by their mom, and I didn't have space to put them separately from the ones inside the house. (I brought one of the three kittensin and put him in a carrier for about four days before I was able to catch the other two and cleared the porch to have access to the cage that has been sitting on the porch). I knew it is not a good idea to bring a stray cat inside the house if we have other indoor cats without getting them to the vet first. I have to not do this again.
