OUR COOPERATION WITH GRACE
How incredibly short-sighted and ignorant we often are in regard to spiritual things. We look to find spiritual life in our feelings, and when we don't experience a quantum of them, we believe we don't make progress. God has everything accomplished for us: our sanctification and completion, but He gave us free choice and doesn't push anything on us. He offers His grace and gifts generously, but we often find fault with everything. When I believed I was dying, the Lord showed me the passage in James about faith healing. I never had heard of a sick person being anointed and healed this way. But the Lord demanded simple obedience, and I obeyed and was healed at that very moment.
There are preconditions, eternal principles on which the works of God are based. I did not feel any faith in particular, but I knew that God's Word was trustworthy and that He had shown me, what I had to do. I knew, if I did my little task, the Lord would do His part. This is the way the Lord leads His people: we don't have to feel anything, but we have to meet His conditions, so that God can do His part.
Oh that we might to listen more carefully to God's voice and obey it, without finding fault, so that God can do His part; how richly He could and would bless us, and do great things, because we fulfilled the conditions. But we often do something different from what He instructed us and thereby paralyse the omnipotence of God. When God wants you to rejoice, you should rejoice and when He wants you to worship, He wants nothing else at that very moment than worship; but we bring Him other offerings and are surprised when God does not bless us. He never requires anything from us that we are not able to do, for what He demands from us, He will give and work in us, as soon we have given consent and made room for Him. God is ready to grant us the entire fullness of His grace for our ministry and hear every prayer; and the precondition is not hard. We will have no excuse, if we find some day, that we have come short of our goal.
Our trouble is our lack of obedience to the ways of God. When the Israelites got ready against all reason to walk into the Red Sea, the power of God cleared the path; and similarly He will prepare the path for His people today, if they are determined to blindly obey.
When Israel crossed the river of Jordan to conquer Canaan, God commanded them to start the battle. That was their task; everything else, God wanted to do. They only are to be the channel, through which God could reveal His power. God is the same today. Many think, that it is not important whether we entrust our body to the Lord or not. But it seems to me no trivial matter. We are obliged to create opportunities for the might of God to be revealed: we are called to be witnesses to the divine truths. We, however, turn our eyes upon ourselves and don't hear the voice of God who then is hindered to work as He pleases and use us as surrendered instruments. We all want to walk by sight; but the elect have to learn to obey, without seeing; that is the way of faith.
In 2.Cor. 7.1 it says: "purify yourselves". If there is anything in your life that doesn't conform to God's standards, put it away into the grave of Jesus. There are many things that are not sin in itself, but they can impede growth; we must get rid of them, no matter how necessary they seem. James 4.7 says: "Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you." Not before we submit completely to God, we are able to resist the enemy and receive the blessings of God. If we surrender and humble ourselves by acknowledging our weakness and dependency, God is able to take our life into His strong hand. But we often pray and plead and struggle, instead of following simply the guidance of the Lord in obedience and by allowing Him to do His work. (by M. von Brasch)
