Here is a poem I wrote about the Legend of Valentine's Day:

Valentine's Day began many years ago

A date set aside in time

It's dated back to Ancient Rome

To a Bishop named Valentine

When Claudius became the Emperor of Rome

He sent out a decree that read

To insure the size of Rome's army

No-one could be wed.

Young men and women still fell in love

To Bishop Valentine they fled

He understood their love for each other

And in secret by him, were wed

When Claudius heard of the Bishops deeds

He was quickly placed under arrest

He was cast into the inner jail

His sentence was that of death

But, while he awaited that fateful day

The Jailer's daughter and he wrote notes

they too, fell in love

For the words of love they wrote

When the day of execution came

Many thoughts were on their minds

He wrote a final note to her

Signed "From Your Valentine"

And so this day is remembered

With those we love in mind

With cards and gifts of beautiful flowers

And candies of the richest kind

So I wrote this simple poem

With the one I love in mind

It's penned and signed with all my love

It's from your Valentine.
