Just Christian here...love cathyww

There is a name above all names, I don't call myself anything but a Christian. My husband use to say "I am a Methodist, I was born a Methodist and I will die a Methodist, then after he was baptized at a Baptist church with us, he says he is a Baptist. I have no idea why there is a need to have an extension of christianity.

If Christ is the way and the truth, I do not understand why so many denominations stand up and say we are the ones following Christ the way He should be followed. Even nondenominational churches have this attitude. If we can do nothing apart from Christ and all of the knowledge we have comes from Him, someone has to be wrong about their way being the right way and just maybe all of them are wrong in thinking they are right.

When I was young, Jehova Witnesses would come to our door and my father would say tell them we are Pentecostals and I had no idea why it worked, everytime they turned and walked away. My aunts squabbled amongst themselves over things that were going on in their church. My mother inlaw was Prostestant and she married a Catholic which was a no no in his world. It was as if he committed the ultimate crime by marrying in a Protestant church. I have sat in many different churches including a Baptist one that bashed Catholics and Pentecostals.

I was in my thirties before Jesus got to me. No one led me to the Lord, but the Lord and what a fight it was. Like a man with a house full of division with squabbling among his 14 children, each with their own room trying to see which one of them stands out among the rest as doing what pleases their father. The eldest proudly declaring that since he has been with the father the longest, he is most favored and his doing what is right compared to his siblings. A vistor soon grows weary as each child takes them to their own room to explain their faith and their ways.

pentecostal and charismatic are not denominations but represent a slice of christianity that belief that the gifts of the Spirit exist for today. now there are churches that add the terms to their name and imply that charismatic or pentecostal are denominational, but that is another argument.

for years much of the evangelical christian church looked at charismatics and pentecostals as cults, or as apostate, but not any longer. of course it helps validate those movements when respected leaders like Billy Graham writes a book about the Holy Spirit in which he explains the validity of tongues, prophecy, word of knowledge, etc, etc.

no my only question was to satisfy my curiousity of the spirituality of this forum. at times it seems some what conservative and others it seems somewhat charismatic.

and i suppose kay, that i kind of put it wrong about it being an extension of christianity. no that does imply another denomination or borders on cultic beliefs. no, what i meant to imply is that a christian walk can feel, can be, so much more when we approach it from a spiritual aspect. if we only read the Bible as if it were a book, a piece of literature, it is dry and empty. but when we approach it as a wellspring of life, as a nourishment to our soul, as our daily bread, it takes on a completely different meaning, even without redefining or re-interpretating the Scriptures. no, it actually takes it to another level. otherwise we begin to divide the word rather than consume it. but then this is my thoughts, my opinions.

our journey with the Lord will be different than anothers. we can all read the same verses, believe the same philosophy and doctrine but in our personal time, we will approach God in our own way during our daily time with Him.

im christian well better known as mormons. but still follow christ all the way. x

I would like to think of us as one big Family

I'm a christian.I believe in the Bible.Life is about knowing Jesus and including him in our daily lives.

Been to most churches, methodist, baptist, pentacostal, anglican, catholic and for me they just represent a way or method of worshipping God with people of the same persuasion. I am first and foremost a Christian as I state in my profile and any Christian church is a good place to be, never mind how they worship God.

Thanks for explaining barneybear. I have a tablet and pen to take note of things the Holy Spirit is pointing out just for me. I do believe the Bible is the living Word. I can read the same words years later and the Holy Spirit will show me something else.

amen to that...i know when i first wa saved, reading the Bible was like a drink of cool water to a parched soul. and now when i reread some verses, it is more like a meal, instead of a sip. when one is receptive to the Holy Spirit, verses take on a much deeper, more meaningful role in my life

I believe the word or phrase "Pentecostal" has been attributed to those who speak in tongues, wear theri hair a certain way and dress a certain way. I have heard of the Full Gospel , Assy. of God, Apostolic and others being referred to as "Pentecostals too. Many of the "traditional " denominations are incorporating some of the music the "Pentecostals" have been singing for years too. I have heard name dropping like Bapticostal and Menthocostal too. Just an observation.
