Love the new stuff, not so keen on hymns as a rule. Although I like to do them at church with guitars, electric piano and drums and jazz them up a bit! I will say that the lyrics in those hymns are great and powerful. Went to a carol service at the local Anglican church last night and the carols (all traditional) sounded great and the guy playing the church organ was amazing. So, coming from me, a worship leader who likes to introduce new material as often as possible, that is quite a compliment!

I'm a funny old type I do like the old Hymns but not into the other new stuff but I do think it's great for the Kids to have their own type of music.

Never listened to contempory christian music. Then my sister sent me some for my birthday. Check out an artist named Joe Sabalick, very good, modern. Singing is another form of prayer.

I like either,old or new.Kirk Franklin,Hillsongs,there are now so many all good.

Thanks for all your comments.I know this sounds funny but back when I was in the youth choir in our really old and stoic church,Maranatha music as some of the older generation would say was frouned on.We had a youth choir director that got fired because he had us sing "Amasing Grace" to the tune of "House of the rising Sun".I alway`s thought that was not right but that is just the way things happened when some "People" start to thinking that the "Church" belongs to them and not "GOD".
I have listened to a lot of good music and I am one of those that think that just because it is not a hym from before you or I was born,that you have to stop trying to have "Making a joyful noise to the Lord".All kinds of music does just that(making a joyful noise).
Some of the new groups like Casting Crowns,Mercy Me,Michael W.Smith,Third Day,and others have grasped that Idea set down in the Psalms long ago.I think it is great.

I think Christian music needs to be relevant if young people are to be drawn to the Lord.

As long as God gets the glory, I don't care. I'm all for reaching the lost and the younger generation, as long as we don't water down Christianity so much where it becomes irrelevent.

i like pretty much all kinds of christian music except for that old timey whiney stuff... my granny loved it, but i would have to stab myself if i had to listen to it very long... didn't they use that as a type of torture in guantanamo??? ha! anyway, my absolute fav type is christian rock (mostly the harder stuff) like third day, ivoryline, jeremy camp and so many more! i for one am very thankful that there is this style available.

Personally, my favorites are Third Day, Delirious (especially his song of Miracle Maker), Paul Wilbur (especially Kadosh). So, those are the artists I love to listen to most. :)

Penguin, I think you've made a great point. As long as God gets the glory. And we shouldn't compromise Christianity just to fit in.
