The knowledge of his love is the curtain rod on which all else hangs we need to truly settle in out hearts this fact not in an intellectual way but know and experience his love in out hearts. I recently tried to explain to someone why I was a christian and I know the chidrens song that says because the bible tells me so but it goes much deeper than that. I don't believe what I do because I read it in a book I didn't even know anything about at the time but that God revealed himself to me in a very real and tangible way that I simply couldn't deny no matter how hard I tried and I know now that was Gods love being demonstrated to me. I believe that being a christian is as much an experience as it is a belief. Yes I walk by faith and not by sight but I can only do that because God has revealed to me how much he loves me in as much as I have been able to comprehend at this point in my life.
A greater revelation of this truth in my life is what I desire, a revelation of the cross not simply in word but in the demonstration of his love through what he has done for us. It's a very personal thing to me he died for the sins of the whole world but he also did it just for me and more than this he reached out to me when I didn't even know who he was and revealed his love toward me. I pray for all of us brothers and sisters a deeper understanding if his great love for us.
For me I felt this way many times as a Catholic when I was growing up but didn't want to attribute it too much to God. It was always, I felt something I must have done to deserve it. I realize now the error in my ways stemming from ego and ignorance. God's love behind those moments of relief and peace through hardship are because he loves me, not because I did anything to deserve it. Then in my adult life I finally realized how lukewarm I was about my faith and about how I felt towards Jesus for I would have no problem praying to God, but wasn't sure how I felt about Jesus' role in my salvation. When I finally gave myself to Jesus I instantly felt a flow of love and peace. I felt as though he was speaking to me in the language only my heart and soul understood. I felt so special and the hole in my soul finally felt full.
When I have a moment of silence I dedicate it to my lord and savior. Simple prayers yes, but sometimes I just think of him and his love, I make up my own hems to my thanksgiving and praise reserved for the king of kings. Which like you brings me to glimpses of how important focusing on his love really does trickle down to all the good he brings in our lives.
Thank you for praying for us Christopher. I will continue to pray for you and our brothers and sisters in Jesus' name. Even those whom are strangers to me (on the bus, on the street, in the supermarket) but who also share the same human form and need Jesus' love in their lives.
Thank you guys for sharing, and God bless you always!
I totally agree with you that love is an action and definitely a feeling not just a faith we live by. Yes we all need to experience the love of God. We all need to have a love relationship with Jesus.
I do believe we have to learn or read about the biblical love before we can know and experience it.
The world today has the definition of love so distorted. The world definitely does not understand UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.
I believe this is the love you are truly speaking of. When we come to realize that God loves us unconditionally we can truly understand HIM so much more.
When Christians then walk in unconditional love towards other it is truly a beautiful experience of the Holy Spirit working in our lives to touch others. When this happens, the unbelievers are really surprised by the action of love. Because they believe they do not deserve love with no condition.
Romans 8:35 & 8:38 is a key chapter that tells us how unconditional God's love is toward us that nothing can separate us.
1 Cor 13 the chapter of Love is a good chapter telling us how Love is an action in our lives.
John 3:16 tells us the love of commitment. God's love was so committed toward us wanting us to have eternal life that His son died for us.
This same love goes into Godly marriage. We are committed until death due us part. We just have to be reminded of 1 Cor 13 to put our commitment into action. When a couple loves each other unconditional what an experience it is. The experience brings trust and belief in your spouse to a whole deeper level. I never experienced a healthy love relationship with my mother or father so I had to learn this through Jesus in how to love healthy in marriage.
And I also just love the verse that says in 1 John God is Love. Now that is a deep definition of God.
I urge all of whom are struggling in the love of God to do a word study of Love in the Bible. It is easy to do on the internet. Go to a bible webpage and put the word love in the search and read all the new testament verses with the word love. You will learn and experience in the Spirit the love of Christ.
I have meditated on many verses with the word LOVE in them. This experience has healed my wounded heart in many areas. God's word is a so good and true and definitely a healing balm to our souls.
Thank you for sharing the song, It is beautiful.
God bless,
Hope
