Will we know our Loved Ones in Heaven?
OLDBIKER
I guess, I have been asked this question many dozens of times by all ages of people from different denominations and beliefs. So, I will try to answer this question with the following scripture and comments:
Text Scriptures: I Peter Chpt 1 vs 3-5
First of all let me say that Heaven will be a strange and lonely place if we do not know anyone when we get there.
We know from the Scriptures that there will be no pain, sickness, sorrow etc. Rev. 21: 1-6
We know that Jesus will be there, because He said we would be with Him someday--John 14: 1-3.
We know that separation will be over and the Apostle Paul spoke of Heaven, being with Jesus, etc. Phillipians 1 vs 23.
So here are 3 reasons why I believe we will know our loved ones in Heaven.
I.Heaven is a place of Perfect Light: Rev. 21-23-27
A. Jesus was the Light of the world when He was here.
B Heaven has light but, needs not the sun or the moon to light it.
C. Everything in Heaven will be in God's light. Eternal, righteous and pure
II. Heaven is a place of Perfect Sight: I Cor. 13 vs 12.
A. There will be no blindness in Heaven
a. Many are blind here on earth. Physically blind and spiritually blind.
b. Jesus opened the eyes of these blind people. (Spiritual and Physical)
c. When we get saved, we are no longer spiritually blind.
This comes from knowledge--Spiritual Knowledge.
When Peter saw Jesus transfigured on the Mountain, he saw Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus. How did he know them? Moses had been dead for hundreds of years and Elijah had never died. He was taken by the Lord in a whirlwind. Matt. Chpt 17 vs 1-4(Transfiguration) and 2 Kings Chpt 1 vs 1-12( Elijah's rapture)
Question: If Peter recognized Moses and Elijah, while in the flesh, here on earth, why would we not know those in Heaven when we are like Christ. Remember, John said "for we shall be like Him (Jesus) for we shall see Him as he is". I John 3 vs 2.
We will not know less in Heaven, we shall know more. We will know the saints of all ages, just as Peter recognized Moses and Elijah.
When Stephen was being stoned, he looked up into Heaven and saw Jesus, standing at the right hand of God and he recognized Him. Acts Chpt. 2 vs-55-56.
We will recognize Jesus, just as Stephen did.
Why would we then, not know our loved ones? We will know them when we meet them.
III. Heaven is where Jesus Makes Things Right: ( I Thess. 4 vs 13-18.)
Paul wrote this chapter as a comfort to those who had lost their loved ones after Jesus had ascended.
He said, Those who sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. His closing words were "Comfort one another with these words". Where is the comfort if we would never see our loved ones again or ever know them?
How can you have peace, comfort, fellowship, etc., in the company of strangers?
Jesus whole ministry was about fellowship, family values, etc., His first miracle was at a wedding in Cana. He fellowshipped and lodged with Lazarus, Mary and Martha. He spent 3 years fellowshipping and teaching his chosen 12, the Apostles. He restored dead daughters and sons back to their families. He kissed little children and blessed them. Why would Heaven be full of people we do not know? Why would our loved ones be taken to Heaven and us never know them when we get there? Why would Jesus spend 33 years with people, fellowshipping, and teaching and yet, prepare a place where no-one will know anyone when we get there? This idea does not make any sense and it is contradictory to the way Christ lived and taught others.
I believe that this love we will have in Heaven for Christ and for our loved ones, will be greater, richer and more fulfilling, than any form of love that we ever had here on earth.
Are you a part of the family of God? I sincerely hope so. Jesus came to this earth, lived, died and rose again. as the eternal living Sacrifice for the atonement for your sins and mine. When we place our faith in His finished work, as our personal Savior and Lord, He will save us, accept us into the family of God and we then, will see Heaven and our saved loved ones again in eternity some day.
Have a great week.

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...

I especially liked 1 thess 4:13
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them who are asleep, that ye SORROW NOT, even as others who have no hope. This verse has been a great comfort and has played true to me in the death of my father.
I wanted to give you a heads up on acts 2: 55-56. Typo on the chapter its chapter 7 for anyone else that is looking for it.
Thank you for doing this study I really enjoyed it. God Bless and have a wonderful weekend
