My happily ( or so I thought ) married parents of 15 years recently decided it was time for a divorce. Months before it would be late at night and you could hear the arguing coming from downstairs, I was quite interested at the time and I have to know what it going on so I listened and it sounded as if my mother wanted it all. Of course, if they aren't happy then I'm not but my dad never wanted this, he often accused her of being with other mean and the thought of that broke my heart.
I'm only 14 and I have already experienced possibly the worst heartbreak I'll ever have, I knew it was happening but when it happened it somehow felt like I could never see this coming, I talked myself into the mindset of ''It will never happen, after 15 years you don't just give up.'' I'm scared, I never want to turn out like they did. I made a promise to myself that I will never do that to my future children, I will try as hard as possible to make it work.
It has been several months since then and I can't necassarily say I can come to terms with it, my anxiety has gotten worse, panick attacks are more frequent and overall I feel useless and like a waste of space. The thought that the divorce could have been my fault floats through my head time to time.
People tell me to stop being selfish because I am thinking all about myself when really it is my parents hurting, but these people have never gone through this before. I keep cutting people off because they made comments about how rude and confronting I have become but they don't understand. I hate this feeling.
I attempted suicide with pills but after reading online I decided I would try my best to be positive and happy or at least convince myself I am.

Sorry for what you have experienced, this is something that no one can prepare for, divorce is not an easy topic to talk about and it is not something that you can just get over in one night. The individuals who called you selfish have not clue what it is like to wake up every morning seeing your parents together and then one day waking up and its all gone. None of this is your fault, and that is something I needed to come to terms with when my parents divorced. It is going to take some time to get through this, but you have the support of the group chat to help you in your time of need. Take care.
