Parents who do that to their children have serious problems within themselves. Firstly, when they go to treat others better, is a facade, a mask, they try to obtain something, is not real and not for long term. Good parents prioritize their kids first and take care of their feelings. However, there are situations when it might seem that those parents are being nice, that might be because they are simply polite and not involved. A good parent is not always a nice parent, when a parent educates or criticize bad behaviour it might seem as not nice, but instead that parent does his/job. If you feel insecure and abandon, check your feelings against reality, talk to the parent and find out the truth. How? Well, you can test the parent love and comitment like you would with a friend. Ask for something, do something and see how they behave. Then you can properly judge an attitude like be nice is it love or just pretend or politeness?
When a marriage breaks, it doesn't mean the parent divorces the kids and if the parent is in a situation where there are other kids, they might try to be accepted and be more pleaseant. They have to work harder to earn respect, acceptance, love in that new place whereas they feel comfortable and secure with their own kids. Take that love with pride and joy and don't be afraid to share the parent love, you as their own child will be number one, no matter how nice they might seem.

some people tend to think that they screwed up in the first family, maybe they can do better with the next, since that family has no history of them being a bad person at times. Its not your problem, but you can be the adult and tell that parent you forgive him for everything up to this point. Because I'm pretty sure that parent feels guilty and probably cannot even look you in your face w/o feeling like a total failure. Tell that parent you going to give them a chance to be a part of your life and thats the best gift anyone can give. You take care of yourself and know that its not you at all. You are so beautiful, I don't know anyone who wouldn't be proud to have a beautiful teenager like you.

My Dad left my mom for a nasty creature. They got married got pregnant twice although the first pregnancy was stillborn. The second is my very much alive half brother. I finally realized after all of these years that he threw me away like yesterdays news. It has taken all of these years for me to finally realize why I was in such pain.
