I have this on going dilemma in my life and am now seeking help via this website to help make this decision.
My son's father has never been involved in his life as a father figure. The day I told him that I was pregnant, he told me to have an abortion. He has been involved in my son's life since then, but only as a friend to me or someone that is friends with my friends (in the same group). Denies paternity of this child, says that I was cheating on him (which honestly is a total lie). My son is 9 and knows who is father is as I have told him. (I felt he had a right to know).
About 5 months ago, him and his girlfriend had a baby girl. Due to complications with the c-section, his girlfriend died, leaving him to raise this little girl on his own. He never denied this little girl or caused any grief to the mother over the paternity of this little girl. This hurt me tremendously as my son and I have done nothing wrong and yet his father wants nothing to do with him.
I have never asked for a penny from him, but I have asked for a paternity test to prove to him that my son is his. He just keeps telling me repeatedly over the last 9 years, that he can't deal with it at this time. I have never taken him to court due to lack of funds. I am now concidering taking him to court but fear that I will be looked upon in a bad light.
What I want to know is, should I take him to court? In your opinion would it cause an uproar in my child's life? Do you think it's too late for me to involve my son in his father's life? If I don't take him to to court and prove that he's the father, will my son grow up with a void in his life?
