o contact order 4 months 12yr old won't talk to me
Over the last year I have been working to improve my mental health. I had been speaking to my doctor for over a year and in January she put me on a new medication that interacted very badly with the medication I was already taking. I have never been a manic person, but as the psychiatrist report showed afterwards, this is exactly what happened to me when put on the new med. The med did have some positive effects, and the last week I had my children, we did have a great week, we were all happy, and when they left, they were all smiling and happy. The problem started when I had a medical concern about my 4 year old daughter who was showing symptoms that her older sister experienced at the same age, except it had gone unnoticed with her until there had been neurological damage that was irriversable. I also brought forward that my 9 year old daughter had not been safe while walking to and from school on a very busy road. Her mom refused to respond to me and I started to become angry. At this point due to the med I was taking, I became way over concerned, over angry, and over confident. The following is and always has been way out of charachter form me. I kept showing up unannounced to the mothers home. She asked me to leave but I refused, and was escorted away by the police, the next time arrested and takent to the hospital and released the same day. My anger ramped up and kept getting worse and worse until the middle of the night I went outside and caused a huge scene, yelling and making alot of noise. (I was nowhere near the kids at this point). I had litterally lost control and it the intensity continued to compound. The police came, I got into a tussle with them, and once they finally got me into the car, they took me to the hospital and I stayed there for two weeks. I was taken off all the meds, and the psychiatrist at the hospital said that I never should have been given that combination of drugs. In the process, a protection order was placed against me. I hadn't spoke a single word to any of my children for over 4 months. I finally got a judge to grant me 1 hour, 3 times a week video call. My ex fought hard against this and wanted the order to be in effect for 1 entire year. I have always been a pretty good dad, and the worst part is that I was trying to improve my mental health and that road lead to having my world taken from me. I had my first call this week, I talked to my 2 younger girls, 9 and 4, and it was like nothing had happened. They were excited to talk to me. My 12 year old son however refused to speak to me even for a second. He hasn't even talked to my parents for nearly 3 months which is 100 percent out of character. At the beginning of my call with my 9 year old, she asked why this had happened. I told her that my doctor put me on some medications that made me really sick and to do things that I normally wouldn't do. I told her that I got better and that Im fine again now. That was it for that part of our talk. It then went on to her just being her normal self. After the call ended, my ex emailed my lawyer and told him that if the kids bring up what happened in the first place that I need to divert the conversation and dance over it. She says that they don't understand what happened as a whole and me explaining about the medication is only going to make it worse for them. It feels to me and the lawyer, since there has been alot of back and forth for the last 4 months, that it is more than likely that none of the kids know that I became unwell because of medicine and that I was able to get better. They are likely under the assumption that I lost my marbles and that I am dangerous. That aside, I went from being super excited about talking to my kids, to being terrified to talk to my 12 year old son, because he's completely locked up and refuses to talk. In court my ex told the judge that she can't guarantee that the kids will talk to me. He said that a good parent will make sure her kids do things that are important or necasary no matter if they want to or not. He used the dentist and school as examples. He put it on her that it will be a test of her parenting abilities to ensure that each of the children will spend time interacting with me on the calls. She wasn't able to the first time, and now I don't know how I will be able to connect or get through to him on the calls over the next few weeks if he does come on to talk. He's scared to talk to me, so it will be forced if he does. I feel he deserves an apology, and deserves to know the basic part that I got mixed up on meds, spent time in the hospital, and got well. I feel as though their mom should have made that known to the kids, but I think theyve just gone the last 4 months thinking that I went crazy, or that I didn't want them anymore. I just can't get my head wrapped around how everything was going great with them up until the last time I saw them, to him not wanting to speak a word to me. He obviously has anxiety about this, and is locked up and doesn't want to confront this. How can I talk to him?
