I'm glad you brought this up. I am in the exact same situation as you. I have consulted a man as well, as I have the same concerns as you. I am awaiting on insurance approval since he is out of network. Hoping to have an appointment by next week. Keep in touch, as I'm not going to lie, I am pretty nervous about opening up and dealing with something so deeply personal.

I was thinking about doing this myself, as a woman, with a woman sex therapist because I feel like I have an addiction an I don't want my husband knowing about any of this. I haven't cheated, but it's consuming my brain day in an out.

My experience with the male sex therapist has been positive so far. I, as a totally heterosexual male, felt some primal reaction against about opening myself up to another man in this way, but I think this is the right call, at least for now. He did tell me that there are no industry standards about what gender you choose. A heterosexual male can choose a woman therapist, or the other way around. But for me, this seems best. I was nervous, too, NHMedic, but it seemed quite positive. It's just the same as going to any other type of therapist.

HangingOnn: I quite understand your decision to seek the same gender, in the way I did. A good therapist will address exactly what is in your mind, and, with luck, help you find a way to turn it around so that you are less tormented. Don't use words like 'addiction' or 'compulsive' to describe yourself - let the therapist find what best matches your situation. Even therapists don't analyze themselves. A layperson is certainly not qualified to do the same.
