A big problem in people's marriage is that they have a very unrealistic view of what marriage is. If you recall the generic vows it already sets the tone that there will be troubles, challenges, and difficulties ahead.
To believe a relationship or marriage will stay passionate and exciting through the course of the marriage is unreasonable. You may have ups and downs and try to rekindle it from time to time but it is suppose to mature over time.
For those who are in constant need for excitement and passion are ones who probably will cheat on their significant other and aren't marriage material. You aren't going to get that fantasy love rush 5-10-20-30 years into marriage.
These people are probably better suited for serial monogamy where they are in constant dating mode and end the relationship once it gets stale.
In the end it is a philosophical difference that separates us. You believe that personal happiness and pursuit of it is the ultimate good/goal, where I believe that living a successful life is a virtuous life.
An Epicurian (hedonist) vs Kantian (moral imperative) difference of decision making and living.
The best you can hope for is to maintain the illusion forever, hope that the affair doesn't come out from another source, and hope that your husband does not notice the tension inside you.
Get a personal counselor, end the affair, confess and repent to your husband and family, and put all your effort in growing/changing and reconciling with your husband as well as loving your family.
Breaking up with the AP is gut-wrenching and so is the self-examination, but both are necessary.
Godspeed and peace to you.
