couldn't have one, cancer was to bad so doc just started agressive radiation and chemo........

I had a hysterectomy for cervical cancer as well as chemo. I really thought it was going to emotionally destroy me to not be able to have children... then I was enlightened by a friend who said "you can't be a mommy if you are dead" ... the hysterectomy was the best thing I could have done. I wish I hadn't waited so long.

I am 25 and had a radical abdominal hysterectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection 6 weeks ago for stage 1b2 cervical cancer. I did not have any complications from the surgery. The doctor said he was able to get the tumor and did not see anything else. I am actually getting my pathology report this afternoon (crossing my fingers that everything will come back good!)

As far as tips or recommendations, I made sure to get up and walk every day, even if only for a short bit.I also made sure to do the leg and breathing exercises that were recommended to me a couple of times a day every day for the first two weeks to help prevent lymphedemia.

I recently had a radical abdominal hystorectomy and lymph nodes taken from the pelvic area. Today marks the begin of week 3 in my recovery! My lymph nodes came back clear and I will be having radiotherapy as a precaution when my recovery from surgery is over. I have been getting up and walking but still have a super pubic catheter. I feel great but have researched the medication I was on (oxycodone - endone) and found that a possible side effect listed is trouble urinating. So I have weened myself off it and my results are alot better. Over all though I am feeling great considering. I still have a little trouble doing things by myself but the Dr's are suprised by my quick recovery and put it down to will power and age. Please try to remain positive if you need surgery. I don't have children, but I am researching alternatives and the future looks bright!

So I my pathology came back good!!! YAY!!! All my lymph nodes were clear!! They also said they want to do radiation to ensure that the cancer does not return. I have mixed feelings about this as I have read that there is a higher risk for side effects when doing radiation on someone who had has a hysterectomy.
Has anyone else gone through this already?

missymoo1983- you may have already looked into it but I began the invitro-fertalization process 10 days after my surgery. It was slightly uncomfortable (with internal ultrasounds and lots of needles) but definately nothing crazy. My husband and I now have 14 embryos and will one day implant them into a surrogate so maybe that is an option for you too!

Thanx Cancerat25. My fiance and I did look into IVF treatment for surrogacy and found that in Australia the cost and uncertanty were just too high for us.
It is definately a great option to have though and I'm glad that you were able to keep that door open for yourselves. I'm happy that things went so well at the egg retrieval stage for you and I wish you all the luck in the world for the rest of your journey!

I had a radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymph node harvest/dissection for 1a1 adenocarcinoma. I had it done via the DaVinci robotic method. Went in on a Friday, went home Saturday afternoon. All pathology was clear and my gyno-oncologist said I did not need any further treatment. I had a traditional catheter for 10 days after surgery, which was uncomfortable but in the grand scheme of things a small speed bump on my road to recovery. I highly recommend the DaVinci method if you're a candidate. As far as recovery, my tips are as others have mentioned: keep moving. I started out walking to the end of my sidewalk and went further each day until I was up to 2.5 miles/day. Take care of yourself, listen to your body, and don't be afraid to call the doctor with any and all questions.

I had a radical hysterectomy and lymph node removal, I did not have any further radiation treatment. My dr checked my lymph nodes to ensure they were clear and they were lucky me.

Not sure why but I had nerve issues in my legs after the surgery so walking really hurt and running was impossible. It went away after three months but I am not the person to sit still and I think that helped.

Not being able to have kids still bothers me, I love my son but I wouldnt have minded another. But yes I understand my son needs me alive rather than dead and still does not fix the mental aquish.

physically i recovering very good from my vaginal hysterectomy for stage 1a1 adenocarcinoma. mentally - rough. i have two beautiful kids and a wonderful hubby and i thank god every day for that but at the age of 28 knowing i CANT have more still hurts. i dont think we would have had more kids anyway buy knowing we cant is hard for me to accept and makes me very depressed at times. i just try to be positive and love up my two kids and thank god that my cancer was caught early and im now cancer free and didnt have to have any chemo or radiation. good luck out there to all women going through all aspects of this disease :)
