It may present with vaginal bleeding but symptoms may be absent until the cancer is in advanced stages, which has made cervical cancer the focus of intense screening efforts utilizing the Pap smear. I was told a year ago that I had high-risk HPV by my general practitioner and at that time had a biopsy which came back normal-no sign of cancer or precancer. The gyn said to check back in six months to a year. I did not go back in six months because the previous test came out alright, and the whole thing, biopsy, specialist visit, was very expensive with the high-deductible insurance. And, paps come out abnormal for a lot of reasons.
Now, a year later I was due for my pap. It is abnormal again due to the HPV.
To make matters worse, what really concerns me is not so much the change of pap, but I woke up with excruciating, level 9/10 pain in my lower back, bloating, and both my ovaries were hot and burning. Very unusual. Woke me right out of my sleep. I was scared. I had no idea that bloating, pain in the back and pelvis, and need to pee are all not good to say the least. This coincides with my yearly pap. I don't even like to be writing it here. They recommended an ultrasound as soon as I could get it, which is about a week out. I also have endometriosis. I don't like the signs I see. I could kick myself forever about not repeating pap in six months but that is not useful. No other symptoms, no pain with sex, no bleeding.

Since your biopsies were normal a year ago, its somewhat unlikely that your symptoms are related to your abnormal pap. Sudden severe pain like that is generally not related to HPV or dysplasia. Have they ruled out kidney infection, ovarian cysts, etc? There are lots of possibilities.
Since your pap this year was abnormal again, though, you definitely want to follow up with a colposcopy.
Once you get some answers as to what is going on I would imagine you will feel a bit better. For me waiting - for tests, for results, for answers) is the absolute worst. So stressful! Try not to panic just yet. (Easier said than done, right?)
