Cerebral Palsy Support Group
Cerebral palsy or CP is the most common childhood physical disability. It is a permanent physical condition that affects movement. There is no cure for cerebral palsy, but various forms of therapy can help a person with the disorder to function more effectively. If you or a loved one has cerebral palsy, join the group to share your experience or get advice from others.

Hello! My name is Jerry Robinson. I have cerebral palsy and Im presently working on my PhD in information science at Syracuse University. I am passionate about doing things for myself in spite of my
disability. When I was in high school I had a part-time job that required me to wear a shirt and tie. I have reduced dexterity because of CP so buttoning my collar was impossible without the help of my mom or older sister...that is, until my mom showed me a way to button my own collar. She devised a make-shift button hook that consisted of a safety pin attached to a rubber-band. I later substituted the safety pin for a bobby pin because it was hard for me to open and close the safety pin on my own. I have been using this solution to button my collar for over 15 years now.
I am trying to connect with other individuals with mobility and/or dexterity impairments who have experience developing their own ways of doing everyday life activities. I am interested in discussing the various everyday life tools and tactics that people make, modify, and adapt when faced with accessibility or other everyday life challenges.
Im asking you to consider participating in my study. Participation includes filling out a brief online questionnaire about your adaptation/modification experiences followed by two separate 60-90 minute interviews. The interviews can be conducted over Skype, Google Hangouts, or telephone. I know that I am asking for a lot of time! In order to express my appreciation, I will email an Amazon.com gift code to anyone who complete at least one interview. I will send an additional gift code to participants who refer someone else who decides to participate in the study. Even if you are not interested in participating I would greatly appreciate it if you passed my contact information to anyone else you know who might be.
If you have questions or would like to know more, then please do not hesitate to reach out to me at jlrobi02@syr.edu or 315-200-2858. Thanks and I hope to hear from you.

what is your intended out come for your study?
jerraw81
That is a good question - I hope to influence accessibility researchers and designers to pay attention to our actual capabilities, desires, and needs. I also hope to influence do-it-yourself and Maker communities to be more inclusive of individuals with disabilities.

I wish more studies would be studied on adults or older children with CP there are times I feel forgotten because doctors seem to only want to study babies or young children. I'm willing to do any study problem is finding them.
