I don't have access to my original birth records and I need to apply for Medi-Cal; they said they need a note from a DR stating that I've had CP from birth & what not. Does anyone know of a DR and/or specialist I could see and/or speak with to get my CP diagnosis confirmed on paper? Any help would be greatly appreciated or else I'm pretty screwed. Thanks in advance.

Go to an orthopedic surgeon they can either do it by walking talking stuff down on a pager or by just taking a simple x ray and doing it that way. when i was younger i went to a peditrician specialist that dealt with cp did you go to a doctor when you younger dealing in cp? If so call them they will have your old records and be able to help you. I dont mean to get too personal but were you adopted or just lost your records. If so the adoption agency or hospital where you born may have some of your records still there. Sometimes it might say on the birth certificate which you could also get at a social security office and i am not sure if they also document for that too. Hope I helped. Talk to you soon.

or your regular doctor might be able to help you by just writing a script saying you have it but most times regular docs and anything medical wants a specialist to do it.

Hey thanks I'll look into the ortho. surgeon maybe I can find someone in my area. I did go to a pediatrician when I was younger but, it wasn't a CP specialist, I'll give his office a call & see if maybe he can help as well. No worries I wasn't adopted but, I'm starting to think life might have been a little easier if I was, I never got an 'official record' that stated "you have CP" ya know? I checked my birth certificate hoping for that to but, no dice. I'll try the SS office too. I don't have a regular doctor but, I figure the things you mention should give me a good start thank you so much :0) I'll talk to you soon & let you know how things are going.

If you are possibly receiving SSI and have been for a while you would have received a letter stating you are receiving Social Security benefits as a result of a diagnosed disability. I would think a copy of this document would be sufficient for the state of California since it comes from a federal agency. Good luck !

Unfortunately, I'm working full time so I personally have never received SSI benefits but, I talked to my mom & she said that she got them for me when she out of work quite some time ago when I was younger & that those benefits were paid out due to me having CP. After calling about 20 different various medical professionals, I managed to find a a DR that will evaluate, diagnose & provide me with a report that I can use but, it's going to cost me $300.00, on the upside, the appointment is tomorrow afternoon so, I think that should solve my problem. I'm still going to follow up with the SS office in my area & see what they tell me. Thanks again for idea.

Your primary care doctor can probably do this without you even having to go in. He/she has your records since he/she started seeing you... should be easy, and cheaper/faster than going to a surgeon! Every time you see a new doctor they basically have to confirm that... yup, you have CP!

Hey Wheelz how's goes it bro? Problem is, I've never been able to afford insurance long enough to have a primary, I really only ever see the DR as needed. Aside from when I was a kid & on my parents insurance I've never really had a primary to speak of. I called the the old DR my parents took me to & his office told me they didn't have any records that stated I was ever actually diagnosed with CP, they told me that those records would more or less lie with the specialist that I was referred to as a child. I probably should've mentioned that in the post but I typed it out really fast cause I'm in kind of a time crunch. I called the office of the specialist I was sent to & his office told me that because the records were so old it could take up to two months to pull them from archives & it would cost me 30 bucks to get the copies. I'm hoping this specialist I'm going to see tomorrow can help me otherwise I think I'm up sh*t creek & I'm going to have to wait until hopefully some kind of confirmation can be pulled out of archives. Thanks again for all the replies, they've really helped me out.

So I went to the specialist this afternoon...he took some x-rays, asked me a few questions about how my CP limits me & had me walk around a few steps here and there. Long story short got the report I needed for Medi-Cal, now I officially have medically documented CP lol. Thanks to everyone for your great advice. It's much appreciated.
