I have a Baclofen Pump, Medtronic makes them-they are round, made of titanium, anout 1 inch thick, and 3 inches across.
It is placed under the skin, in your abdomen. A small catheter is attatched to it and placed in the lumbar spine area-your lower back. Since the medicine is in the pump and in the spine, your muscles usually respond better, are not as spastic-painful. The pump is powered by a battery, and programmed by a small computer-on how much medication to dispense per minute. i have had mine since July of 2004-have not had any problems- a nuerosurgeon- is the type of doctor that does the surgery. I do not regret having mine-it has helped with my severe spasticity, and pain issues. Yet nothing is perfect-I have days / moments when my muscles-legs hurt-yet things are better than before getting the pump.
