A Puppy question

Hi all,
I recently got a Shihtzu Puppy That I named precious Haley but we call her Haley for short she was a surprise from my mom and grandma she is a lot of fun. But she stays with my mom more then me and it upsets me that I can,t take care of her has much I would like because of my cerebral palsy. I thought when I got a dog it would keep me company not my mom and then I would not feel so alone. Dose anyone have any advise for me or has anyone ever felt the same way?

My dog used to be like that, so I figured if he wouldn't come to me I'll just come to him. So I did whatever I could. I would just sit there next to him and pat him and talk softly to him, I gave him treats and I tried to throw a ball to him every so often. Now me and my dog are the best of friends. And he sleeps with me every night . My dog also seems to know that he has to be extra gentle with me. Instead of jumping on me when I come home, he sits there patiently wagging his tail and waits for me to sit down and call his name. Then he licks me like crazy. So my point is, you just have to wait. Talk sweetly, show love and compassion, and your dog will do the same

I used to have a Dog like that.....Simba, Who REALLY miss alot.
We had to put him to sleep last Feduary.
He was a yelllow lab, And I got him from a non-profit that trains dog's as service dog's and home companion dog's, the non-profit is called Cainine partner's for life (cpl)
Maybe that would help, maybe theire a CPL in Your area.

Hopefully they can train a service dog for You, depending on the nature of the cp so it can be Your's.

Puppies just aren't sure how to react to wheelchairs, especially power chairs because the motors make a noise (higher pitch than our ears can hear). Give it time, Haley will warm up to you.

maybe look into getting a service dog instead.

a service dog is a great suggestion. how mobile are you? do you like cats? i have a sweet 2 year old british blue/persian mix cat named maria. cats are much easier to care for. i love dogs too, but i am going back to school soon, and i would not be able to care for a dog the way it would need me too.

but that's just me. maybe do what luvmydoglots suggested. just spend time witverh her. let her know you love her, and that your chair is nothing to be scared of. maria is so used to my chair that she regularly sets on my lap. she even sets in it when i'm in the bathroom. i have her trained to eat on my counter and use her litter on a small table in my living room. if you can train your dog when she's young, she'll naturally adapt to your needs. animals are very smart, and she may surprise you.
