I am lastose intollerant from years of poisoning prior to my diagnosis.

I use the Lactaid milk and the pills to eat cheese. They do not work well for Ice Cream. BUt lucky for us, Bryers has a lastose free Ice Ccream that you can purchase.

I was diagnosed with Celiac 4 1/2 years ago. At that time I was told I was lactose intolerant due to the damage caused to my stomach and intestine by the gluten. I was also told that some people are able to tolerate lactose after they are healed. I am to say that finally since August I am able to drink regular milk,eat ice cream and all dairy without that sour, heartburn stomach. I would also get diahrea sometimes if I would drink too much milk. Finally I am OK. I still eat and drink dairy in moderation. I love milk. So there is hope for some--it might get better after the damage to stomach and intestines are healed--good luck.

Marie, it may not be lactose - the sugar in diary. It could be casein, the protein component in dairy products. Unfortunately a lot of people with gluten problems will cross-react with casein. My husband is one of those and we found out that we've got to make sure that there's no form of dairy, including whey in anything he takes in. He's been using a vitamin supplement that we finally found out has a whey component and for the longest time we couldn't figure out what the heck he was reacting to until we E-mailed the company who makes the product since it's not o the label. Once we discontinued it his head finally cleared up.

I never thought of casein as an issue but it may make sense as my son has asperger's syndrome and his symtpoms do show improvement with the removal of gluten. I have heard of others that have had improvement of other things with removal of casein. I will start to watch labels even more closely.

Sounds like I have nothign to lose by trying a few days without dairy and see how he feels. It seems everything is trial and error that way. Some gluten free things that I think won't bother him do and others don't so again so much trial and error.

i am also gluten free and totally dairy free. i cant eat any dairy- milk, yogurt, ice cream and cheese. I get sinus headaches, tummy cramps. If anybody wants websites for good tasting soy milk soy yogurt or nondairy ice cream. let me know I love sharing the food that I have found.

I avoid milk, but do 'cheat' once in a while with ice cream, and sometimes regret it. Sour cream and cheese do not seem to affect me too much. I was (re) diagnosed 16 years ago.
Instead of milk on breakfast cereal, I use a product called Rice Dream, it is quite good once you get used to it, especially if it is chilled.

I think you should stop shooting in the dark and go for a complete food allery work up. It takes a while but it's SO worth it!!!

The last time I ate Ice Cream, I had a lot of cramps.

I was surprised.
Before I ate almost whatevery I wanted. First I went on a yeast free diet for a month.
After the diet I was able to drop almost every med; around 30 meds.

NEWS to me. As I add foods back they make me ill. Now I know the reason I was on so many meds and my doc's had NO CLUE. This piss's me off a lot.

So, it seems like people with intolorances don't do well with milk either.

I LOVE milk. I didn't know I could purchase it without lactose.

I plan to suck down that lactaid.

Here in NZ there is a product called A2 milk. There is no casein in it, there's another milk protein. Apparently some people who can't tolerate the casein protein, can manage A2 milk okay. Is it available in other places? I am intolerant of milk protein, but haven't tried A2 yet as it cost nearly $5 a litre and people weren't buying it so most supermarkets don't stock it now. Still looking......

Splash62, I don't know what A2 milk is since we don't have that in the states.

I did purchase lactose free milk and it has made a huge difference.

I am experiencing some discomfort so I think I will try that bottle of capsules related to enzymes and milk.

I used the enzyme capsule when I went the the only resturant that has a Gluten free menu. I had some icecream after I took this capsule and I was just fine.

I hope this solves the dair problems.

For those who cannot ingest Casein, is there a pill/capsule that can be taken like the lactose intolorant people?

Galbladder pains.
I had a lot of galblader pains prior to to switching to gluten free. I had a scan done and it showed my galbladder was fine.

Later I learned about possibly having CD.

I had a blood test done Thursday for CD.

No, there is no pill for casein problems. You just have to stay away from every form of it, dairy included. And the unfortunate things is, just like gluten, casein can be 'hidden' in a lot of different forms.

I really HOPE I can find some casein free milk. I've never heard of casein free or A2 milk here in the states.

Do you have A2 cheese too?
Could you tell us the company that sells the A2 milk?
