I was always told the scope is the Golden test. My doctor did both on me. If the biopsy comes back positive I don't understand why blood test would be needed, but I am not a doctor. My gastro does blood work on me occasionally to see if I am remaining gluten free.

A scope is the golden test to show damage to the villi but other stomach conditions can also damage the villi. The blood tests are a great confirmation showing antibodies and possibly genetic factors for CD. I would suggest having them both done.
Also, if you get a diagnosis of CD it is important to be tested for vitamin deficiencies, especially vitamin D and calcium. Deficient in those two for a period of time does have an effect on our bones.

My experience is that doctors usually do the blood test first, as it's simpler and can confirm diagnosis without the need for a biopsy. However, since the blood test is an antibody test, it will only come back positive if you're currently eating glutens, so you may end up needing both, as was the case for me.

im getting the scope first because my blood is so low they want to make sure im not bleeding inside so if i can avoid the blood work it would be great i give it every month to make sure i dont need a transfusion hugs charlene

YES! I did. My small intestine was completely smooth - not good! That was all the docs needed.
