Burts Bees Update

Hi All,
So I called Burts Bees on their source of vitamin E. Their website says that it is wheat germ oil derived but the person who answered the phone told it me it was soy. I asked her if she could double check and this was the e-mail that I received today:


I double checked with the R&D team who informed me that our vitamin E is soy derived and is free of any gluten derivatives. We apologize for the confusion this has caused and hope you will continue to use our list of gluten free products. Thank you!

I emailed Dr. Green and recieved a reply today from the nutritionist at Columbia University. She personally called Burts Bees to discuss this issue. They replied that if there is any Wheat Germ oil in any of their products it will be listed on the ingredients list very clearly. She said that it seems that there products are safe for us. Wow how things get messed up. Well hope not everyone threw out there Burts Bees yet. I'm relieved because I have been using these products for 3 years.

The confusing part of this is that if you look on the Burts Bees website under their ingredients glossary. They list their vitamin E as being derived from wheat germ oil. When I called to double check they told me soy! Boy, if they can't get it right they expect us to?? Anyway I am glad to hear that it is not wheat. I myself use their products also. They do have some products that do contain gluten in them and they are listed on their website. Thanks for all the checking up you did. Let us know what Dr. Green says. Have a great day!

Dr. Greens office just sent me a list from Burts Bees of all there GF products. I'll try to figure out how to get it posted here. I'm new at computers. Judy I don't thing they list their source of Vitamin E but if its wheat it will say it. Looks like you will need to talk to them personally. Good luck.

Judy, isn't soy one of the allergens that must be listed on products due to the new law? If thats the case why don't you go on the Burts Bees site and find what product you use and research the ingredients in each product. They should have soy listed. Really all you would have to really worry about is lipstick (ingested) Good luck. I sent the GF list of their products to Doug. Hopefully he can put it up on this site. Bye

thanks for the work. i personally will not use their products. it's just my personal choice. when i first start 2 years ago i call every company of every product i used. hours and hours on the phone.

i use chap stick for lip protection..so after the months and months and 4 different internet forums compairing BB's emails...it's just not a product that is safe for MY PERSONAL USE. alot of celiac's use them with not problems.
