Shortage of priests

I am 57 (in August) and remember when there was an abundance of priest. Now in our parish we only have 1. Our second priest went back to the Philippines to serve there leaving only our pastor.

I really like him but it must be trying to try to take care of all of the "out of mass" work. He serves 5 masses on the weekend and does several during the week.

We had a deacon to help him but he died a few months ago.

What is the problem/answer? Allow priest to marry? Allow women to be priests?

What do y'all think?

I believe the priest are human, no different....so, yes..... I believe they can get married , why not?
and it rubs me the wrong way to see a woman pastor/priest up there preaching... but at the same time I hear the Lord telling telling me to listen to the message and stop judging her...so, I listen

I certainly think priest should be able to marry.Jesus did??????and as much problems we as catholics have had with priest and .....well...you know....that would instantanously go away....

Yes I do believe that priest should be able to marry. As far as women becoming priest, you need to take into context why no women could be priest in the early church. What women could or could not be or do was very restrictive. I guess what I am saying is should we bring that question up using today's society? If Jesus were alive today I think that things would be different.

My father would have been a priest if he were allowed to marry. He was training for one when he met my mom. I got the "religious gene" from my dad as my mom tells me. Therefore should women be allowed to be priests? You bet we should!!! The thing back in Jesus' day was that the Jewish had restrictions on women priests... guess what we are not Jews!!! Also, if I become a widow I plan to become a nun. I went to Catholic school and the nuns pased out literature to us about become nuns. Well I said no because I wanted to have babies even though I was the only little girl I knew who would go and light a candle every single day after school. Think of all the good people in this world who could be serving the Catholic church so well today. Besides, Im Irish, we are SUPPOSED to produce a priest or nun every generation. My grandma never did forgive my mama!
