Hi. What I do is I leave calming music on when I have to leave so there is a background sound in case of noise out front or out back. It seems to help my cats.

I also sing around the house all day and with my caterwauling, the cats sleep through it.

So just try putting calm music on NOW to lay down a background that they will realize is okay and it may help them to get through the fireworks.

Also, do you have any super yummy treats that your cat likes that you could get and have ready for the fireworks and try to distract your cat from the panic. When the cat comes to you, give a treat and say--good boy/girl. Then give another treat and say good boy/girl. And focus the cat off the fireworks and onto the yummy treats.

A couple years back, the neighbor had company on a holiday and an elderly man came over and was within 5 feet of my front door throwing down the fireworks that explode when they hit concrete. I opened the door and told him that I LIVE HERE, so stop it and take it back to his relative's home (I was mad because I was afraid that stuff was going to hit the door and blacken it or hit the front window and break it when it exploded). He left immediately.

We had a complete ban on fireworks here for many years due to the deserts being so dry, and now they have lifted that, even though they are still so dry. It's stupid and people are stupid and usually drunk when doing fireworks. A friend of mine many years ago had a place in an area where fireworks were to be done and the residents petitioned because homes were too close and the fire company had to have all men on present and on duty all around there because of risk of fire. Thank goodness because the pieces came down and set dry brush on fire and the fireman were there and able to act immediately so it didn't go anywhere near the homes.

Thanks for your advice...I play calming music often and I will surely try giving the treats to him and her (the other cat is also a little afraid of fireworks as well.) The treats can help distract them or at least get their minds on something else while fireworks are going off. And actually their banned where I live in the residential areas but you know, its the fourth of July some people are going to have their own firework show anyway...LOL

How about powder catnip? When our cat is stressed, we sprinkle powder catnip on his scratching post and he rolls in it and makes him happy. Also we have these catnips balls which he can chew and play with.

That's something I'll try...powder catnip...our cats love catnip and it does get their minds off whatever it is that's stressing them. Thanks Koyu
