Nutro Products Announces Voluntary Recall of Limited Range of Dry Cat Food Products (May 21)
Thu, 21 May 2009 13:07:00 -0500
The cat food is being voluntarily recalled in the United States and ten additional countries. This recall is due to incorrect levels of zinc and potassium in our finished product resulting from a production error by a US-based premix supplier.
Website and details below - includes list of recalled items.
When will this ever stop, there has been so much recalls on pet food and now another one. Thanks for the information, I will have to check out the site to see if I have that particular food.
i just threw mine away. I'm sticking with Friskies for a while. I kknow it's not as good for them but so far I haven't seen a recall on that brand. It will do for now. I know Naukana, when will it ever stop!
I lost my best friend a few years back too the Chinese poison that was added to his IAMS wet food. His kidneys shut down and I had to put him asleep in the space of ten days. He was lethargic, did not eat or drink and could barely move by the 7th day! I took him into the vet on the third day and the test came back on day eight. I had him put out of his misery on day ten. The vet said there was no hope he would ever live more then a few more weeks and he would be in great pain!!
I cried that day! My fine Russian Blue, sixteen years of wonderful friendship. Two days later my Sister tells me there was a catfood recall! I looked at the rest of the cans and sure enough I had the poison ones! My cat was the first cat in Colorado to die from this horrible greedy chinese man that made a few bucks by his actions!!
I found out later the Chinese executed him! Talk about justice!!!
When your cat stops eating or drinking, pull his food, check the web for recalls and give your cat distilled water and human food from a butcher! Until your cat gets back on it's feet!
I found another Russian Blue, and a Tortise Shell a few months later at the humane soc. I still think about my first Blue, his name was Bear! He is buried at the foot of Pikes Peak Colorado Springs, his final resting place has a view of three hundred miles!
Miss you Bear!!
I don't use Nutro products. I tried a sample with my cats years ago and they threw up after eating it. Some time later I heard the Nutro sales rep telling people how wonderful the food was and I asked her 'If it's so great how come my cats throw up if they eat it?' She had no answer for that.
So sorry to hear of your cat being killed by the poisoning MarkusO. It is so cruel of what people can do to our pets. You think your giving them some pet food that is safe and then find out too late it has been tainted with. Wish I had a Russina Blue, there are so beautifl looking with those nice blue-gray coats.
My Blue has a coat like silk and gold eyes! His face is very handsome but His personality is by far his best qualtiy. My bear was the same way with his intelligance and sense of humor! I was never interested in breeded cats and always found my children uhh... Cats at the humane society preferring to help an animal stay alive to have a loving family!
My last two cats (both from the humane society) just happened to be breed cats that no one wamted! I am very lucky that I was/am able to spend the last 15 years with these wonderful animals! I keep a very close eye out for recalls and opened this thread as soon as I read it!
I will not lose Blue to another greedy company! As soon as he looks ill, I pull his food and then its human food an distilled water until he looks better! Not gonna lose my Blue!

Bump. Has anyone heard any info on this besides what I have posted? I have never heard a word about it on the news or anything. How is this not newsworthy? I don't use Nutro products but couldn't bear to think that it could affect anybody else's beloved cats.
Might have made SOME newscasts but not the national ones. Maybe the recall was too limited. Around here the local news stations have a page with important recall notices. Maybe the problem isn't very dangerous to cats. Who knows why it didn't make the news. But with the other stuff going on in the world a limited cat food recall isn't likely to make waves, unless cats start dying. THEN it's news. That's how news works. There's a lot of stuff going on that DOESN'T make the news. You have to kind of look for it off the main stream.
I don't have any more info. You might see what they're saying about it on CATster or CatAge.
I just wanted to say that I got a message from one of my mystery shopping sites where Nutro is looking for product demonstrators to go to pet stores and hand out free samples! Even WITHOUT the recall I wouldn't do that! I only shill products I believe in!
