I used to work in retail, and sold home office equipment. In the 1990's this lady bought a phone answering tape recorder machine from me. She lived on the other side of town, and had - of all things - a dog grooming beauty salon.
One day she rang me up at work and wanted to know how to re-record her outgoing message.
"Oh, you want to change your outgoing message? It tells you best step-by-step in the instruction booklet", I explained.
"I don't have the instruction booklet anymore, and I just want to re-record my original message", she explained.
"Oh, then you accidentally erased your outgoing message?" I asked.
"Uggghhhh.... not really. The cat re-recorded the outgoing message", she said sheepishly.
I started laughing. "You're putting me on! Don't tell me your cat pushed the buttons on your recorder in the right sequence and re-recorded your out-going message!"
"You don't believe me!" she said annoyed.
"Sorry, I just can't believe a cat would re-record an outgoing message for a poodle salon! It's too complicated for a cat!" I said and started laughing again.
"Okay, I'll prove it to you! Just call me back on 12-34-56-78 and listen for yourself!" she challenged.
"Alright... I'll do it. Hearing is believing!"
And sure enough, the answering machine came on with the out-going message, "Me-ow! Rauw! Mew! Meee-ooww!" The cat had changed the out-going message for the poodle salon!
The late great Charlemagne was a 'police cat' He kept me up to date on what was going on around the house. He knew what all the neighbors sounded like coming in and out and would alert me to any noises outside the normal ones. He also kept things INside the house in order. Regina, 2nd oldest cat, used to pick on Ashera the kitten (at the time). One night I was watching Tv and Regina attacked Ashera. Ashera began to yowl and Charlemagne immediately came running out from the kitchen. He looked at Regina, then at Ashera, then at Regina and promptly attacked....REGINA. Chased her into the hall ahd had her literally backed into a corner. Regina was sitting up on her hind legs with one paw on his forehead and he just sat there glaring at her. He kept her there for 10 minutes until I told them to break it up. From that point on he watched out for Ashera and Regina was so intimidated (Charlemagne was a BIIIIG kitty...check out my Photos page)that she would immediately stop picking on Ashera the moment he showed up. Got to the point that all he had to do was appear to break up the party. He'd come in and lay down WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING IN THEIR DIRECTION and everything settled down.
Man I miss him for that. Although Regina is gone now too and Ashera is the oldest.
Once at night, I was laying in bed next to my cat Morris when my other cat Travis started messing around in the kitchen, making noises. I yelled out to him a few times to cut it out but he kept on till Morris jumped off the bed, and went in there. I heard a loud yowl, silence, then Morris jumped back up on the bed beside me and all was quiet for the rest of the night. I guess Morris showed Travis his own form of "cut it out"
When Ashera was a kitten she used to run around the house as fast as she possibly could and chatter to herself right after breakfast every morning. The other two and I would just stand around and watch her. None of us knew what she was going on about but at least SHE was having fun. Did that the first year and a half she was here. And sometimes she'd chase her tail in the bathtub and yowl to herself. I worried the first few times she did it but I watched Charlemagne and he wasn't concerned so I didn't worry about her.
Lol...I usually put the kids to bed at nite in the same room with the pc.. well one morning I went to the computer and sat down with my coffee, I t was then I noticed one of my brood had actually managed to sign on to aol in my sn..and one of my friends on my buddy list was asking me if i was drinking, lol...I swear it was the siames...lol
I came home from work one morning and found the TV on and the channel changed. With 3 cats there were plenty of suspects. I looked at the convetrer box and sure enough there were tiny kitten size paw prints on it. Apparently Ashera was exploring and got up there while I was at work. Must have surprised the heck out of her.
lol..One day I had to stay home sick from work and was sleeping in the bedroom, all of the sudden I hear the tv turn on loud,,scared the bejesus outta me!..I get up and look only to find Ms Toy laying on the remote sound asleep. Another time Mike had placed the remote on the back of the couch and was interested in a movie, I was sitting next to him doing some paperwork., all of the sudden I hear him say "quit changing the damn channel, I'm watching that!" I calmly said,"I DON"T have the bleeding remote." Well he looked around in surprise and found Taz with his paws leaning the remote..and promptly said," I'm sorry hunny"..lol cat's gotta love 'em..
Tampa, Fla. (AP) Tipper's got just eight lives left.
The grey and white tabby made a lucky 911 call Wednesday while chokeing on his flea collar: The cat knocked the telephone off the hook while struggling and somehow hit the No. 1 on th key pad, which automatically dialed 911.
In the other end, Hilsborough Sheriff's dispatcher Elena Arroyo heard strange sounds that seemed like howling. She kept the line open and sentt Deputy Joe Banforth to check it out.
Banforth arrived at the mobile home of Gail Curtis, who was out. Hearing the cat inside, the deputy got the key from the park manager. Tipper was in a corner, the flea collar rolled up in his mouth. The deputy and a maintenance worker quieted the cat and removed the collar.

When the girls were babies, they would find the most crazy sleeping spots..I went to make a salad for for dinner and pulled out my large salad bowl and lo and behold there were 2 furry lil bodies in it, Mike of course asked if I was gonna wash the bowl before I used it..(smart ass), their favorite spot was in my cook book drawer..or stretched out across MY clothes hanging in the closet..(never on Mike's) Taz is about 1 1/2 years older than the girl so once he got over his mistrust of them he pretty much took care of them..We would come home at nite and say "Taz where's the girls?" He would hunt about and round them up. He would make "mommy cries" and out they'd come.. Sabbath managed to get herself stuck in a hole in the drywall in my pantry one time, it was where the water pipes came from the hot water heater..We were sitting down watch TV, and all we heard were frantic kitten screams, well Taz honed in on her and showed us where she was...When I opened the door all I seen were 2 plump furry little gray back legs pedaling furiously...Mike was immediately off in search of a ax to rescue his baby, but I told him to wait a sec as I have have small hands and was able to reach in and untwist her and pull her out, covered in dust and cobwebs, well it was a bath for her and xanax for us..lol I had Mike block that hole so no more incidents...
When Regina was young she figured out how to open the kitchen cabinets and use the shelves as a ladder to climb to the top of the cabinets. For two days I'd been wondering why the cabinets were open when I got up, then I caught her at it.
A lady on Jeopardy tonight told about being on-line with a shopping website when her cat came up and jumped on the keyboard. Cat walked around a bit and jumped down. When she looked at the screen she saw a message saying 'Thank you for your purchase'. The cat had actually hit the right keys to place an order which was automatically billed to her credit card.
And another guy who bought all his cat food on-line had a nasty surprise after his cat jumped on the keyboard in the middle of an order. The order came in and the cat had ordered 473 cans of cat food!
That's why mine are NOT allowed up here when I'm typing.
My male maine coon cross made our local humane society calendar once. It was for September & it was sort of a basketball shot.
Man I miss him for that. Although Regina is gone now too and Ashera is the oldest.
