Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a medical condition in which the median nerve is compressed at the wrist causing symptoms like tingling, numbness, night time wakening, pain, coldness, and sometimes weakness in parts of the hand. CTS is more common in women than it is in men, and has a peak incidence around age 50 (though it can occur in any adult).

I'm Joy.I have an appointment with a specialist on the 29th of this month.I'd like to know from people who have gone through treatment for carpal tunnel what the options are if any.I've heard about the surgery and would like to know how long the recovery might be.

I just had bilateral carpal tunnel surgery on 10/06. It went well. I get my stitches out tomorrow. I am a medical transcriptionist, so I don't know how long the doctor will make me wait to go back to work. I waited too long to have the surgery, should have had it 2 years ago. I didn't want to be off work though. I have no more pain!!

I had my right hand done 2 years ago. It takes a full year for it to recover completely, but you can pretty much start using your hand within a few days. I am going for my left hand this Friday.

Thanks.I had the testing done and will find out what the results are next month.I pretty much know what is going to be said.I just wanted some advice how the surgery would be.Thank you.

The surgery itself takes about 10 minutes. Local anestetic. after you stay for about 20 minutes - they take your blood pressure and off you go. Word of advice, wear sweat pants...something with no zippers or buttons.

I had it done on both of my hands 2 weeks a part from each other.I had lost all mobility in both hands they just hung around and were not able to do much of anything.

2 years later and I can pretty much do with them as I want, I have strength issues some times, but not that often. I also have OA in both of my hands too. make sure to ask the dr. if he will be numbing your hands makes a difference in how you feel the day its done. My doctor numbed my hands, he didn't tell me so I thought something was wrong lol. But I didn't need any pain medication either.. my best wishes and good luck.. let me when you are having it done.
