Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a medical condition in which the median nerve is compressed at the wrist causing symptoms like tingling, numbness, night time wakening, pain, coldness, and sometimes weakness in parts of the hand. CTS is more common in women than it is in men, and has a peak incidence around age 50 (though it can occur in any adult).

I am new to this particular group. So a big Hello first. :)
I have suspected CT and am actually going to the Dr's today to get checked again as a second opinion and then having the injections..
I'm sure I have been suffering with this for a couple years now but because of other serious health problems I had encountered the past few years I just ignored it. Well in the past few months it's gotten much worse to the point where doing normal everyday things are painful and I am also scared I might drop something because I have been getting more and more clumsy.
I also wake up in the night either in pain or numbness. Which leads me to my first question. I've read all about CT etc. and know that the Median nerve doesn't serve half the ring finger or the little finger. However, on my right hand, when I wake up sometimes, along with the almost completely numb thumb and other fingers, my little finger is completely dead. Can you have CT and also have numbness in your little finger? What causes this?
Second question.. 18months ago, out of the blue my right thumb started hurting severely, like I had broken it. Was a very weird sensation. I didn't remember doing anything to it but went to the hospital after 5 days because it was literally like a 9 or 10 in the pain scale. They X-rayed it. Nurse said I could have cracked a bone, they put my thumb in something thats in between a cast and a normal bandage. I went back to the Dr a week later and he said he couldn't find any cracks and wasn't really sure what it was. Took a long time for the thumb to get back to normal. i thought that was all very strange. Anyway, a week ago the same pain has entered my left thumb. Its basically like a pain you can't really pinpoint much hence why there cant be a break etc. It's definitely started to lose feeling compared and during some times in the day is extremely painful. Can CT cause this???
Both bases of my thumbs look like they are brusied. They are purple and bluey, and during peak times when I am using my hands they swell up.
If any of you could shed any insight that would be fantastic. I am going to the Docs at 3.30 today and am not a huge fan of needles... not that anyone is but I really am freaking out. hehe.

He concluded that he is not 100% sure it is CT and wants me to go have a nerve conduction test. He said it may be something else. I'm sorta relieved and frustrated at the same time because of the pain and numbness I'm still gonna have until the tests are done.
He said if nothing shows on the test than it may be something to do with my neck... not sure how a problem with my neck can result in severe pain in my thumb and hands and swelling/bruising.
Anyone experience the same thing? Anyone have CT with something else?
