I had surgery on both of my hands (the left one in December & the right one just last month), and it has been a LIFE SAVER for me. Pregnancy induced my CT back in 2010. There is really nothing to do to get rid of the numbness or pins and needles, I'm sorry, but as for pain, since it is nerve pain, you should ask your DR about Neurontin. It is given for nerve pain due to neuropathy sufferers. It helped me sleep at night, but I could only take it at night because it made me sleepy and woozy.

Good luck with your surgery & I hope you have a speedy recovery!! I will tell you that after the surgery you may have even MORE numbness in one or more of your fingers (except your pinky), but it will go away. The pain and pins and needles will be gone pretty much as soon as the surgery is done (well the incision will be painful, of course). Your numbness will go away over the course of a couple of weeks.

I wear braces at night that have the metal stabilizer in them. You can get them at Walmart at a pretty decent price. My doctor has had me wear them for months and it helps with letting me sleep and keeping me from having the numbness quite so bad.

please fill us in on how the surgery went. My symtoms are exactly as you described and I am considering surgery, but am so afraid it won't make things better but could make things worse. Have you recovered and would you recommend having the surgery?

I have read both positive and negative feedback results. I'm confused now :( But I'll take surgery as last option, and research more and take a deep think into it.

If you can withstand getting cortisone shots then I say well worth it. I had one shot back in April 2014 in each carpal tunnel both hands. Completely wiped out the pain and waking up constantly from the pain. I just had carpal tunnel release on my right hand back in July and doctor now wants to wait at least 6 months on my left hand which I think is an outrageous wait time. Hope my advice helps. Braces actually made my numbness worse and no medication helped so I had no choice to get the injections until I could get surgery.

Another item. I'm a massage therapist and no my symptoms were not brought on by carpal tunnel. Suffered since late '90s with it but not diagnosed until January 2013. All through massage school and countless trips to the chiropractor and acupuncture did absolutely nothing to relieve my problem. In school we thought it was my scale ex, muscles in neck/shoulders were compressing on my nerves but that was not the case. Best relief I received was the cortisone shots and hopefully I will get results with surgery. I was also throwing my braces off in the middle of the night subconsciously, prob from all the pain. They totally made my hands rob so bad.

Use braces with the metal pieces. That's what I use and it helps a bit. Capzain helps too.
