Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a medical condition in which the median nerve is compressed at the wrist causing symptoms like tingling, numbness, night time wakening, pain, coldness, and sometimes weakness in parts of the hand. CTS is more common in women than it is in men, and has a peak incidence around age 50 (though it can occur in any adult).

In my experience, it may be probably both. I have carpal tunnel and have had trigger finger in both hands. They gave me steroids and both thumbs which has to be the worst treatment second only to the shot it took in the middle of my hand from an orthopedic doctor. They do believe that I have arthritis as well. My job requires me to work on the computer all day and it has taken a toll on my hands.
