Caring For Aging Parents Support Group
Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.
My Mom has had 6 teeth break since end of DEC. Each having to have tooth and root extraction. What a mess. Because she is on a blood thinner and has to be a certain clotting ratio to have any surgeries.
Today, the wound is deeper. So she has more to fuss with. Pokes her finger in her mouth. Pulled her clots out and made herself bleed all over her chest and clothing. It looked worse than what is was. I finally gave her something to help her sleep, She still took the cotton out. It seems things are ok and now I don't have to worry about her choking on that too!
I am happy to see Mom taking the surgeries well as we go. She will soon begin some post and crown work and some kind of partial to snap in place for a bridge. This will give her teeth to chew foods with. So far, she eats a lot of soup, protein shakes. Soft breads. And of course, powdered donuts. She has to have 3 mini donuts with her decaf. We choose our battles here. I get her to drink the Protein in exchange. Of course she would, but we pretend fuss so she can vent her feelings about having little food choice. It is in her mind what she can or not on a given day. So it is a daily guess and I am happy to live 2 blocks from 24 hour food stores.
I am enjoying her nap and having a nice day in a second story view of my garden. All the windows are open and the recent rain has the air feeling clean and cool. I really enjoy airing out when we can. It will soon be too hot and humid so this day is bliss.
Hope all of you will find some peace at some point. It makes this caring thing so much easier.

I'm going through the same type of thing with my mother, she's on warfarin and keeping her blood levels normal is impossible. She's never had to watch what she ate in the past and this is proving to be more than what she can emotionally handle.
Glad you're having a nice day though with the fresh air. In New England it's just been cold and rainy half the time. I'm so done with this weather.
I so get that about enjoying the cool air while it lasts. I had my windows open today too and it was lovely.
Here in Colorado we get blistering dry heat that is just as bad as humidity but in a different way. You feel like your lungs are shriveling up and your skin is burning of.
Enjoy your break. You have earned it!
Some times Mom eats well. Other times not so great. Nothing seems to help the INR.
Mom is awful about putting heri hands in her mouth yet complains we don't wash hands to fix foods. So, every sitting space has some hand sanitizer and tissues. It makes her comfortable and willing.
Willing is so hard to achieve some days :)
