Well, with all the stress of care giving I was doing for my mil, children, and husband, I had a breaking point. I was leaving my husband and with him the care of his mother. Nobody knew I was leaving. Four days before I was to leave, my MIL went into the hospital with a low grade fever and weakness. She was kept for observation. It turns out she blood poisoning but didn't know how she got it. I talked to her the next morning and by that afternoon she passed away. It'll be one month on the 29th.

As for my husband and me, we're a work in progress.

Some things are supposed to remain secret. I wouldn't tell anyone how close you were to leaving. Maybe, if productive, let your husband know you were so upset you were thinking about it. But only if it would help, not to hurt him.

There is a great therapy suggestion...don't make any decisions for one year following a traumatic life event (birth, death, divorce). I think your MILs illness counts as one of those life events.

Hopefully now with that stress gone you and your husband can work things out. Unfortuantely life puts lots of obstacles in our path. The trick is to get past them and not look back. Good Luck!!

hi, I don't know you...as I am new to this group. But, I am sorry to hear about your MIL's passing.

I hope you and your husband find a way back to one another. So many times, taking care of an elderly parent does get in the middle of relationships, or gets in the middle of our every day lives. The sacrifices are trying, but if you feel there is something special, and the love is there, try your best to both talk about things, and maybe talk to a counselor to help you sort things out.
