Caring For Aging Parents Support Group
Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.
My Dad passed away a few months ago and therefore my partner and I moved in to take care of Mom. The arrangements have long time been understood that I would be the child who oversees. And I am the youngest now, and female, so this is tough on my bossy male sibblings. They are thrilled not to have this task actually. They are really interested in the money. Also my sibblings now must be some what leary of us for taking on Mom. One would have to be a little different to do this. So, I am but try NOT to be my parents.
My Mom is Not and easy woman. So direct and complicated with her own set of aggitation! Oh, and no respect in her demenor.SHEW. My partner worked as a nurse in geriactric care among things. However, has major dissabling disorders and the strain of living here is making things less clear and she is losing her sense of wellnes.. We once could handle the sharpness of my Mom, see it coming and divert her. But it is so tiring and now is not working with the dimentia developing. I told on Mom through my NP (works in the same office as Moms Doc). I wanted them to know she is not this super-star who walks into the office like a celebrity. I worry that they don't believe me and think I am being cruel or the one who is unstable. I could see her twisting stories and making me out to be the bad guy. The woman plays games like you would not believe.
While I look back at what I have written, I see that some of what I say is not so different from others. I have just been afraid to say these things because it seems unkind to talk behind my Moms back. You see, I have spent a life time of watching people react to her (and my Dad..wow...together they were a hit series for HBO like the Sopranos but they are the acedemic Altos :)
So, how do I find a group in my town to find support and not have Mom find out about it. That would ruin trust and hurt her feelings. Imagine that I know this about such a caustic person. She has feelings..somewhere in there.
I feel so torn but know that how we are managing is not going to do much for our mental health. Any thoughts??

As for support groups, you may find help at your local church's parish outreach or at your local hospital. Ask if they know of support groups for caregivers. It doesn't have to be one that specializes with children of elderly parents. Pretend that you are going to adult education if your mothers asks where you are.
You family situation is very common. There are always siblings who do nothing to help but are eager to help themselves...to the money. There are vultures all around us.
