Hi All, I went back to work after a long rest...well it wasnt really rest. Just had more time for the computer when not at work. Sorry if I was lax.
Home Health detected my Moms dementia and how it is causing her to lapse. Since I am with her all the time these things seem to be part of her personality , to me that is. More objective eyes and ears notice other things. I am just learning the difference.
Mom clearly lapses and over estimates her abilities. So basic and not uncommon for people losing control of their lives.
So here comes an additional visit of a social worker to see how Mom is coping in her home. It will be a challenge for Mom to be nice. She hates therapists. We have the subject of being alone or needing 24/7 care.
Mom wont like this subject. Will say we are coming into her home with unwelcome advice. She also tells people I am abusive and wont let her leave ( like with a foot of snow on ground). She thinks she can drive her car in a storm. Honestly it is like keeping keys away from a drunk friend.
They can be so mean and hateful, the next day remembering nothing.

At the same time I realized that mom is aware of the changes in her and it is upsetting. But those moments are also few and far between. So like when my dad felt he could drive even when he couldn't walk, now I have my mother who thinks she is doing things when she really isn't.
What has worked well for me is having this case manager. She is so good at getting mom on her side. Just last night I had her pop in to see mom because she wasn't feeling well. Probably cost $30 for 15 minutes but it is soo worth it to know that she is OK. And mom sees her as a friend. She also listens to her more because she sees her as an authority figure (that generation thing) and she's a safe person to give in to.
