Hello again, I want to thank those who responded to my last post. I am looking into daycare for Mom perhaps in home when she is a little more confused. She is in early stages of dementia and sooooo not willing to grow older. Hates her cane, walker, and lies about her eye sight being poor.
I must share a good day we had though. Not a stroll in the park or a pretty ride to look at the lake, sunshine, and clouds. No ice cream...
How about a trip the the emergency room!! Who would have guessed this would bring so much to a situation!! This was day three of seeking treatment for shortness of breath, coughing, pain. Pneumonia in the early stages was the initial diag.
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) an additional finding.
The treatment helped her breathe and morphine given for pain (for the coughing) made her more compfortable. I was so glad to see her chill out!!
During her time of ease, the first moments of relief the poor soul has had, I looked for the missing POA in her purse (She put it in hiding for safe keeping and could not find it..or something). I am normally not a snoop and certainly do not need to add distrust to the list list she keeps about me so did not press to get inside the wallet. But behind the insurance card, folding into a small wad was...Eureaka!!! So, I was able to get the nurse,doctor, and "moir" a copy. Sigh. I was so relieved.
It is stuff like this that nags at your every being as you try to wrap your head around how to cope with the parents. And once you have resolved one thing...then there is at least another to take the place. In this situation, it is the CHF. It probably triggered the pneumnia as there were symptoms and nothing definate other than a serious heart.
No hospital stay but Mom was delighted to be out of pain and breathing. It was sad to see the meds wear off and the exhaustion come back. She will eventually need oxygen, pain management, breathing treatments. They sent her home with an inhaler. It is really not working the way the nebulizer did. Anyway....
I am sorry we found out more health issues but it explains some of the problems we have had for a while. I think she knew but of course I could not get info from the DR because the POA was in hiding. OK. I am daft for not checking behind the insurance card. LOL .
So..I am getting use to the idea that we dont get to choose our battles, but we can decide to change how we react or not to them. Wow, this is going to be a tough.
I am glad not to be alone in this. It all becomes a little less about me and more about the situation; caring for elderly.

You appear to be a loving and attentive daughter, which is exactly what your mom needs. It's nice to know that she had some relief from her physical discomfort after visiting the ER. My prayers go out to you and your mom. *Hugs*

Peaceful I am very proud of you. Its not easy to look after a parent, but a rewarding experience. I get the most beautiful gentle hugs from my Mum and I love her more everyday. Hope your Mother is feeling better soon. :)
