What a screwup today. Mother is mentally and physically so out of it and has been taking in SO little liquid for the past 24--36 hours, never could I have imagined that she could pee through the padded brief and thru the absorbent pad and onto the mattress!!! Even got her t-shirt wet. I've only dribbled a half a straw of water into her mouth a few times since like day before yesterday. And dear Lupe, our hired aide, suggested that we change her today when she got here. Nurse had changed her yesterday afternoon and I just didn't get it. So I discouraged Lupe, saying no, she's comfortable and it hurts her so much for us to have to turn her, etc., etc. After all, nurse yesterday indicated that changes in her skin (mottling) suggest that she has only a day or two left... but what a mess we have and a ruined mattress. And my poor Mother....

Now hospice is coming with better pads and diapers instead of briefs... I'll just be SO glad when this is over with.
