Off Topic: Grand Jury Service

Hey Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else out here has ever been called for Grand Jury Service??? Apparently, and I found this out yesterday on my first day of reporting that Grand Jury Service is completely different from Jury Duty.

How lucky am I????? It's 2 days a month for 6 months! We were let out early today actually before noon but I have to go back tomorrow for the OAG's office indictments. That's three days of service this month. Unreal!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting process but boy, it's really a disruption in your work and home life schedule.

Wow! That on top of everything else you are dealing with!

My DH went through the selection process for a "regular" jury but was dismissed. Prolly because both attorneys realized he is the most sane and fair man on the planet.

Would not mind a nice juicy murder trial and book deal but I recon they would take one look at me and decide I was nuttier than a fruitcake!

The Grand Jury doesn't decide guilt or innocence. They only make the decision as to whether there is sufficient evidence to warrant an indictment for prosecution of a defendant. 31 cases presented to us yesterday and another 17 more this morning. We were let out early. Yeah.... Tomorrow we have a full day with the Attorney General's Office and all their indictments.

It's interesting but there's so many pieces of information that are rather painful to listen to.

None of that is allowed. We had to take an oath of silence. In other words, keep our mouths shut about the details.... It certainly does keep your mind off the home problems though!

I am off all the lists for either because of my disabilities. My doctor wrote a letter on my behalf, explaining that I am not capable of sitting for any length of time due to chronic pain. I would talk to your doc and see if he can help you like mine did. I went to Jury Duty once, before my disabilities got really bad. What an experience. I was surprised they accepted me because of having a son who was a deputy Sheriff. Hugs GB

The one time I was called for general jury duty, I actually was chomping at the bit to be selected because the case sounded so interesting. (Not so much the actual "deed" but all of the fascinating dirty laundry being aired between the plantiff and defendant.)

Of course, the entire case got thrown out.

That's a good idea to get a doctor's letter. If I were called today, I don't think I could sit for that long, plus, my attention span/cognitive functions have really declined. I guess it's what is called "menopause brain???"
