One of the best old movies of all time is an old Bette Davis film called Now Voyager. It's about a woman with a domineering mother. Bette Davis is at her best as a young woman who is emotionally beaten by her mother. Without giving away the ending of the film, I think it's a good one to watch for people who have parents who are uncaring and abusive. I watch this film and feel the power surging through me on what I must do.

I just wanted to tell others on this group. The film was made in the 1940s , but it fits what I'm going through myself. I like the Bette Davis character has been abused by my mentally unstable parent. I like the Bette Davis character am fat and frumpy and unhappy with the woman I have become.

I've come to realize that I'm a prisoner of my mind. My own doctor told me to wash my hands of him. That he is destroying me the same way he destroyed my mother. When I told her that he's 85, what if he falls? What if he needs help? She reminded me that he can dial 911. And that at 85 he's slimmer and healthier than me. You don't see him with high blood pressure, fat, with vision problems, and a possible stroke just the year before. If anyone should be worried about falling and not being able to get up it's me.

So, tonight, I'm watching Now Voyager and I'm hoping I can channel some of that get-up-and go from the film. I certainly need it.
