I have for the last year and 1/2 watching this unfold from a distance. Due to some medical conditions, I will be moving into my parents house tomorrow,. And it will be a challenge. My dad is 81 and after he broke his hip 2 years ago, he gave up and has gone downhill ever since. Almost a year ago he had a triple bypass and still whines about that. All his doctors tell him there is NOTHING wrong with him and his sitting on his butt is making him weak. He hasn't taken a shower in almost a year. And he lays on the couch all day, sits up to eat and then immediately lays back down. The doctors give him one pill after another, yet don't address the depression. His gastrointoligist said he needs therapy, but nobody acted on it until I called him primary doctor. He's got a rotten temper as do I and I don't quite know how to handle it. I used to be an elementary teacher. Do I treat him like a kid? Tell him what he's going to do? When my Aunt was here he ate at the table. Oh, he also uses a urine bottle so he doesn't even have to go into the bathroom. My mother has let this happen. She had a shoulder 8 months ago and still whines, yet according to the doctors there is NOTHING wrong and she needs to use that arm. She is just plan lazy and has always been that way. Up until 2 years ago my dad did ALL the cooking, cleaning, dishes, laundry and made her ice tea and scooped out her ice cream. Sorry this was so long, but I don't know ever where to start when I move back in other than the house is SO dirty that I will ahve to clean it. My medical conditions call for a almost sanitary house.
