hi everyone --
just wanted to say hello --- glad to have stumbled upon you. it all gets pretty overwhelming at times -- nice to know someone "gets it",
i have taken care of my parents for years --- first my mom. she had a rare disease - and i took her to her appointments and such since my dad worked -- she passed about 5 years ago, but the last 6 months i cared for her everyday.
my dad has always been the kind of person who never got sick -- about 2 years after my mom passed he had a seizure in the grocery store parking lot --- turned out to be a brain tumor - non-cancerous. it has thrown everything for a loop. after surgery he spent 3 months in rehab to learn to walk again - his left side still isn't great, but he gets around with a walker. has an occasional seizure --- loooonnnnnggg list of medical issues that start with that. he can't drive anymore. it's been hard on him -- he was very independent - and now he has all he can do to get out of the recliner.
he lives on his own --- but relies on me for everything - groceries, appointments - some house cleaning. sigh.
it's soooo much sometimes. i love him and i know he appreciates it --- sigh. anyway ---
my sister would help if she could --- but lives 1000 miles away.
anyway -- like i said - just wanted to say hi -- looking forward to supporting you guys in your journey, as you help me in mine.

Doesn't sound like an easy road for you. I know what it's like with the errands; it gets overwhelming sometimes. I almost want to scream out, "what another appt? for what now??" It's never ending!
I'm sorry to hear of your father's illnesses. It doesn't seem fair that they get to this point in life and are stricken so harshly!

just came home from 2 appointments with dad today actually -- and groceries. sigh. in the car on the way home he wanted to mop his floors before i went home. sigh -- convinced him i'd do it another day - lol.
plus it doesn't help that we live at least 40 minutes from "anything" and his docs. blah --- lol
i am married bill -- but not with children. :/
i'm really the only one he has in the area --- we have a small family. he has a brother that lives nearby, but a year ago he lost his leg due to diabetes and now my cousin is in the same boat as i am --- lol.
my sister stays at home with her 2 kids --- my BIL is in the army, so he is here and there alot. she will probably come home this summer for awhile - so that will give me a bit of a break - lol, except for the doc appointments --- poor dad can' even keep the docs straight or what's going on -- lol, i've got that all under control -- lol
most days, i don't mind it --- others i just get SO TIRED - physically, emotionally --- lol
but -- one foot in front of the other :)
could you get someone to come in and clean for dad every other week or so? My mom did and it made a world of difference. She resisted at first about wasting the money...she loves it now. I do too.
