Just wanted to share that my 63 year old sister died this morning. She had diabetes and had been a heavy smoker. I am so sad. But my 85 year old Mom lives with me and I have to also make sure she is okay. Of course, my Mom and I are both sad and mourning, and I will do my best to get my Mom through this, too.
It is not as bad as it could be, because it wasn't a surprise. My sister has been ill for a few years. She had both legs amputated in the past 3 years, and had open heart surgery 6 weeks ago.
I am fluctuating between being sad and ticked off. I wish she could have stopped smoking years ago. She just sat there, year after year, watching her legs turn black and purple and didn't even see a doctor. When she finally had to go to the ER, it was too late. SUCKS!!

I recently heard a great 2007 song the other day, "Falling Slowly" because it popped up in my newsfeed, accompanied by the sad news that the male singer, Glen Hansard, just died in a motorcycle accident. I learned that the song won an award and was featured in an indie movie called Once. I just watched it, and it's really good. They made it in 3 weeks on a $100,000 budget. It's streaming on...
I mention this only to say that I too get angry at her for passing, for not taking better care of herself. Please don't be too hard on yourself for being angry at her. It is a common feeling, and denying it only serves to make things worse.

I quit smoking the year before I was diagnosed with diabetes and am glad I did. Smoking is a tough addiction to kick.....I don't miss it.
So many diabetics do not take care of themselves and it is a shame becuz they just ignore or don't care about the repercussions of the disease.
Your feelings are normal.....it's part of the grieving process, so be gentle with yourself.

When my BIL and MIL both died - and both were due to bad choices - it inspired my husband to start eating healthier and exercising more. It was a bit of a wake up call for him. So even though it is always sad to lose someone close to you, sometimes there can be a silver lining there for the living.
