I haven/t been on the board or posted in a while. I fell into a huge depression. I won't recap on my Mom but my story is not that dissimilar to most of you here on this board.
Because I was having emotional breakdowns everyday, I knew I needed to seek counseling. So I first called my work's EAP and that led me to a wonderful counselor who was able to help me gain some perspective. It gave me the "permission" I needed to back off from my Mom and to stop trying to control the outcome. I need to ease into my acceptance of our situation and allow her to do the same. Which is NOT my personality at all. I want to control, direct and fix everything....right now.
So my message to any one who reads this and is struggling with your own emotional demons, please seek professional help and talk to someone. It has made all the difference for me and I'm starting to get my strength, sense of humor and hope back. This will help me, and my Mom, as she and I travel this journey together and figure out how best to serve her needs.
Hugs to you all.
