Caring For Aging Parents Support Group
Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.
I decided to start a new discussion, but i'd like to share with all of you, my "fantasy" nursing home for my Mom.
As you drive up the road into the "Feeling Peaceful" nursing home (Peace, kudos to you on this name, LOL)...you see hundreds of flowers, with colorful blooms, and the sun shining on them.
We pull up in front of the building, and a gentleman nurse comes up with a wheelchair, to escort my Mom to her new room.
The lobby is decorated with flowers, and bright paintings. The floors shine, and he and I accompany Mom to her new place.
Her room is a spacious one bedroom, with a gorgeous view of the lake. there is a big window, to allow plenty of light into her room. There is an antique chair ,and a recliner, for whenever she wants to sit, and watch tv, or look out the window.
She has a 32 inch flat screen HD TV, on the wall, easier for viewing while in bed.
The nurse comes in, and introduces the social worker, and she explains the amenities of the home.
We have a Jacuzzi for therapeutic reasons, and you can soak in there after physical therapy, or anytime you want, and someone will be with you the entire time, to ensure your safety.
There are electric wheelchairs for you to use, so you can move around the grounds, enjoy the flowers, and sit outdoors should you wish to.
We have a pool for swimming, and instructors on staff to get your body moving for fun, or for aquatic therapy.
You are entitled to a nice, relaxing massage daily from our certified masseuse.
Our food menu has an abundance of choices, including lobster tail, steak, and pasta, and homemade spaghetti sauce.
Dessert bar is available 24/7 for those with a sweet tooth ,that are not diabetic.
The nursing staff must respond within 5 minutes to your help button, should you need assistance to the bathroom, or any thing else.
And lastly, you will have soundproof walls and door, to block out any unwanted noise, so you may have a good, sound sleep every night!!

Yes there are places out there. The sad part is that by the time you need these places you can't enjoy them. But at least your family can be comfortable when visiting.
"We don't use wheat we use flour in our bread"
Or soggest that I scrape off the breading and just eat the meat like sokeone would do with icing on a cake
The dream one mght but real ones are only caring ab out the $$$$$.
She even has a pool and can swim whenever she wants. They have pool therapy 4 times a week. They have all kinds of entertainment and activities with food/drinks galore....all included in her rent. They have a doctor and nurse on staff 24/7....even a podiatrist :)
The food is really good with a rare exception.
I highly recommend it and it makes me less afraid of getting old myself.
Where, is the question. We don't have a lot of fancy places around here, but I want her to get the best care, so tomm morning. (I took yesterday off), i will call on some places locally. I made some other business phone calls today, and took care of the household bills.
Just going to call some places, see if there is a bed available, and then we can get the claim forms for the LTC going, and then once Medicaid reviews it, to see if she's eligible, we'll submit any bills from the home to them.
My goal is to at least get Mom "IN" the nursing home, the paperwork that need to be completed can get done, but as long as they will take her , stating she is in the process of filling out a Medicaid application, she can get to where she's going and start to relax a bit, and get familiar with the new place.
This is extremely trying, AND tiring, and I broke down twice this weekend, ..I'm tired, and cranky, and need some rest tonight. hard doing this all alone.
