Caring For Aging Parents Support Group
Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.
I am returning to this site after a couple months away. I had cataracts that needed to be removed but had to wait an additional month for insurance contracts to be accepted etc..between healthcare and ins companies.
At least is was a GO. Because the top of the line equipment was at this facility. I wanted it and the other choice was ok but older technology.
It took a month to heal and I just put close work, reading and all to the back burner.
So here I am the only around getting along well with Mom. She has a birthday soon and it is just ridiculous to be looking at all this alone. I have a few friends who would gather but she would react poorly and insult them. Something like " who are all these people...I don't associate with them." Oh please...you don't associate period! Smarting off is not a good idea...don't worry...just venting with inappropriate humor. I try my best to get that quota in. LOL
You must find humor in this next part. Mom scheduled a Mammogram and cardiologists appointment(s). Made me laugh. It is her something to do I guess. Well, we shall have lunch out. She has picked out her outfit and is all excited for the few cards that line the table in the room where we have morning coffee.
I have no gift yet. Not sure what I could buy. My partner is also away so only a phone call morning of as a planned surprise.
I feel so empty handed. And I am disgusted at one brother in particular. She really cares for him and he upset her a month ago and wont acknowledge her feelings. He does not get that whether or not real or imaginary it takes little to say "oh Ma I am sorry it upset you."
No he over reacts and goes off and sucks his 62 year old thumb.
What is with people and their pride.
So thinking of a bottle of local wine that she enjoys. Invite my neighbor over who will fawn over her. Just go with what I have around me. Any thoughts??

For your mother's birthday; I would keep it simple as you suggested. You could take her out for dinner also but I like your idea of having the neighbor over.
Peaceful very glad you are on the mend. I know you had quite a wait but it sounds like it was worth it. Just be careful and follow orders.
Wish mom a happy birthday. Years ago my parents stopped exchanging gifts with all of us. I used to send flowers or fruit. Mom really loved the chocolate covered strawberries from edible arrangements. If your mom likes to unwrap presents maybe look for some inexpensive things like a jigsaw puzzle, crossword book, cd. Stocking stuffer kind of things.
Um..took suggestions from each. Except I drank no wine. Can't with a medication at this time.
She drank though. And got a toy at Dollar Tree. A VW Bus which we had when I was really little. No heat and yes of course we lived in Northern very snowy cold states.
No neighbor but told her Happy Bday from friends she knew even some she did not. Which was true (nod).
The next day my partner came home and we bought a four flavor pie (each quarter of pie a type of fruit). She enjoyed. No cake. Spare the kidneys ya know.
It all worked out quietly and well. Less chaos than when nearby relatives are around. Is that sad or what. Too bad to be thinking it is more common than not. But look at most of us, like we can call a relative to watch the " parental unit" (my nickname for parent) while we go out for an evening? Good luck there.
But if we all did live near and were friends I would come help if you needed.
