Caring For Aging Parents Support Group
Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.
Yes it is frustrating watching parents start to lose it. Humor is great. Do your best to laugh things off together. it really helps!
Especially in food subject. I have a Sharpie and write when we opened milk etc.. She throws it out or wont eat it.

And, Peaceful, I need to do that when i am washing bedding. Mom always tries to make the beds (minus the mattress pads) and it's really too much for her anyway, plus i need to undo it all and put on the mattress pads anyway. She just can't remember that she doesn't have to do that anymore, in fact shouldn't. it hurts her back and wears her out. i need a big cardboard sign that says "do not make bed, please".
It made a difference in her memory at first. She was also very mad that she had gone without and people were treating her like she was old and daft. Very touchy on the word memory. It is a bad word in the house :)
After writing the post to you about the notes tonight, my Mom yelled down the hall (20 feet) to say "Have I been here in this room all eve?"
I said "except for checking your email in the office..Why?"
Mom noticed her cane on the coffee table just waiting there for her to use. It is always there, where she puts it but the problem seemed to be that she had not seen it before.
So, is it forgetting or remembering( I am thinking to myself.) It has not been too long since she has been showing these traits.
Hope your house brought in the New Year safe and sound
Hugs

i'm sorry you have the physical conditions to deal with as well. i have COPD myself and hope it never gets so bad that i need oxygen. i had it once for over a month and it was no fun to mess with.
I wouldn't try to push your mom too much to do things. I like your alternatives that don't require memory but it's possible she is having problems with word finding so even short passages can be difficult. My mom always loved card games. She still plays spider solitaire on the computer..and wins!! I can't do it. I guess that just proves that the brain is an amazing thing.
